Seemingly pointless classes

Published

Is there anyone out there who feels this way about some of their pre-reqs? I am currently taking Philosophy and Developmental Psych and I find these classes to be utterly boring and just completely pointless. I believe that my Philosophy professor knows that this information is pointless to us so she only requires us to do a little discussion board assignment and a chapter exam every week. No big deal. Just read and do the work. My psych professor must hate us. She is making this way harder than it needs to be. We have several papers to do before the end of the semester. We must read a chapter and a half every week and complete a chapter exam for each chapter and there are a few other projects. This is cool and all except if you don't understand something she will swear that it's in the syllabus or assignment tab or module tab. Yes everything is in three different places with several due dates. She makes it so hard and is super quick to fail you on an assignment. *sigh*. This class is boring as is. I tried to make the information interesting but when I see that I got a 50/100 on a assignment that information just makes me upset all over again. It's like conditional behavior or something like that. Every time I look at my textbook I think of my professor and I just get upset and I don't want to study. :crying2: But I must. *sigh* I must.

livelearngrow,

I'm sorry I didn't realize that you had responded with some recommendations for A&P. Thanks a lot. For the fall semester I see DR. Iweha has a lab that I can take, but I don't see any online lectures being taught by him. For the online lectures I see Joanne Settel. Have you heard of her? If so, how is she?

no i haven't heard of her.. you may want to check ratemyprofessor.com and see if she is listed on their site. i refer to this site every semester and have yet to be steered wrong thus far..they are usually right on point as far as the ratings of the professors..i'm surprised iweha isn't teaching it online in the fall he is the head of the science dept so maybe he has too much going on..

Yes I do think that some prereqs are pointless BUT! what can you do? you have to take those classes to get to the classes needed for your major/graduation. Like I am taking college algebra and I am so ready to be done with this class. The problems are hard and it's so much to learn. Dosage calculations aren't as hard as college algebra. A year ago I took probability and statistics and I passed with a B, but as of now I couldn't even tell you how to work a problem without using the formulas. Anyway I am sucking it up and getting it done.

I think that all psych courses are important for anyone going into nursing. You will end up working with people all over the spectrum of psychiatric health and ages. I've taken three psych courses as pre reqs two of them required several long papers and tests and that was the entire grade no 'homeowork' or busywork to get an easy A. As for the philosophy, that's mostly for the well rounded part of your education.
