I'm considering relocating from New York City due to the lack of positions for ADN new grads. I have a family but I figure CT is close to relocate without them and maintain a relationship. I'm a special education teacher and really wish to specialize in psychiatric nursing but understand I can't be picky. Anyone has suggestions on where to look for work?

Try Middlesex in Middletown, CT. I know they were desperate for psych nurses a few months ago. Good luck!

The CT job market for new grad ADN's isn't good. However, if you are going to look in CT (since you're from the City) see if Silver Hill is hiring. They are in New Caanan not too far from the CT/NY line (drug/ETOH/psych inpatient psych facility). That area is $$$ so if you relocate expect to pay through the nose for housing. Also, there is Hall Brooke which is part of St Vincent's Behavioral Health. They are in Westport..again, not far from the CT/NY line. And like New Caanan...$$$.

Middlesex is not hiring ADN nurses as far as I know. There are various state positions for DMH posted on the state's website from time to time as well. I'd check hospitals closer to NYC individually.
Thanks everyone!
It's very frustrating job searching these days. New grad ADN's are the lowest of the low.
Middlesex does hire ADN's just not into their residency program.

Have you looked into state jobs? CT Valley Hospital in Middletown might be worth a look. It's a state psychiatric hospital. It does house the state psychiatric prison, but has separate buildings for general psych population as well as some addiction services. It's mostly adults, but there is a separate teen population. Not sure if the teen population is general psych or if it's focused on addiction services. I did my psych rotation there, and it was an interesting experience. I'm not sure if they are hiring ADNs, but it can't hurt to look into it.

Natchaug Hospital in Willimantic is also a psych facility. When I did my clinical rotation there it struck me as a decent place to work. Not sure about the hiring needs right now, but I think they consider ADNs.

I was going to second Natchaug. IF you can't get in as an RN, they are always looking for special ed teachers
