I would like some tips on how to find opportunities to teach nursing online. I have my MSN and the skills and time to teach nursing part-time in an online enviroment. Does anyone know where to start looking for these options?:nurse:

Hello, I am interested in teaching online as well. I have tried UOP, but they really want you to have a PhD. I do teach some online courses for the community college I am at, mainly because many of the long-time faculty do not want to do it. This may be a better opportunity because online universities are hard to get into without experience and a PhD. If you have not had formal training in developing and facilitating online courses, I highly recommend the online certificate program through Indian State University. It is a great addition to your resume as well. http://nursing.iupui.edu/LifelongLearning/default.asp?/LifelongLearning/CertificatePrograms/TeachInNsg/TeachInNursWebCert.htm

I have my BSN and am still technically a new grade with a few months of ICU experience. I am interested in teaching online only nursing classes such as pharmacology. Is this possible with my degree and experience? If so, who can I contact? Where can I go to find more information about standard requirements?

You need to go back and get your MSN to teach. You can teach clinical (in person) with a BSN and some experience, but not in the classroom. Go back now and before you know it, you will be there!:w00t::w00t:

You should check out Saint Leo University. I graduated from Saint Leo and they have a great online nursing program. http://www.saintleo.com

Hi, I tried the link that was in your post and couldn't get it to come up. I received my MSN/Ed from University of Phoenix in 2007 and have been looking for an online position ever since, plus paying off a $60,000 student loan. For the same amount of time, I could have been an O.D. physician.

I have the same dilemma as you have. I want to teach online BSN courses. I would say I have expertise in Pharmacology and Physiology as well as Critical Care however, I am having hard time finding one. I have looked into the U of P but now nursing faculty open. I also looked at Chamberlain Nursing.

I guess I am asking help/preceptors from on line professors/teachers to show me the way. I have extensive training a total of 20 years. I have Masters of Science in Nurse Anesthesia ( MSNA ) and currently finishing my Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice. I want to teach on line courses for nursing part-time.

Thank you for any inputs.

I also completed my MSN with UOP to teach, live in northwest florida and am having a heck of a time trying to get into an online teaching position. :uhoh3:

Have you ever taught for Kaplan (NCLEX review course)? If you have live experience teaching for them, you may be able to teach "live-online". I've taught for them (in class format) for about 8 years, and have been approached about teaching "live-online"......I haven't done it yet, though.

If you would like to start off by just getting your feet wet a little. You can teach classroom and clinical in a PN program for starters while you aiming for your MSN. After you earned your MSN you would able to teach both in a BSN program or you may just feel comfortable in the PN program.

Do you have to have classroom experience to teach for Kaplan. I am trying to "break into" teaching and am worried about my lack of teaching in the classroom sertting... Any words of advice?
