Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going :up:

I just have a question (mostly to ease my mind), but does UofT take into account the marks of your prereqs? I spoke to an admissions officer in September and she said that they only look at whether or not you completed it, but I've read contradictory posts from past nursing forums. Ahhhhh, the waiting games.

You're welcome! I know how frustrating waiting can be.

It makes sense that UofT will be sending out more offers in May. Those who've been accepted now and in April need wait a week or two (or three) for the official mail and reply. That explains the dreaded time lag. If there's a lack of response from the March and April acceptees, then UofT will have to send out A LOT more May acceptances to meet the June deadline.

Anyone know how many spots are available every year at UofT?

For those who got in, how long do you have to accept the offer?

@saowa

I'm not sure about that. But officially, the prereq needs to be at least a 60%. With my GPA background, I feel I got in based on my work and volunteer experience. As other posters have mentioned, I do think they take your supplementary application seriously into consideration.

@talstar

Approx 200 I think, correct me if I'm wrong. And we all have until June 2nd.

I got into UofT! Got email this morning. My stats are GPA 3.76 in my last year and 3.4 overall with an Honours degree in bio. I had a C+ in my prerequisites so that made me nervous. Did usual volunteer soccer hospital etc. What I think helped me was working as a medical admin in the hospital for the last year. Will cancel my acceptance to Queens so hopefully that helps someone. Good luck to all those still waiting!

I got into U of T as well! Still waiting on Western which is my first choice, but Im so excited at the opportunity to go to U of T! Goodluck to everyone still waiting!

Hi all,

I just received my acceptance to UofT at 11:55 a.m.:) I wanted to thank you all for creating this forum and asking/answering the questions that we all had and were driving me absolute nuts during the waiting time so far.

you guys all sounds so amazing and I really hope everyone gets in and we can all meet each other at UofT and go for a drink and laugh about this stressful time.

Hang in there guys and thanks again for everything!

xoxo

Hey Lyn.31

I am assuming the group isn't official yet? I couldn't find it on Facebook :down:

Thanks!

Congrats to you all! Fantastic news :)

Alright, I'm going to post the FB group # (616358161784559) ...I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

Replace that number in any FB group of yours and see if it comes up. >_

Seems like were all on a roll today! I was admitted to Trent today (despite my super late application...phew). Interestingly enough, the email they sent me was an offer of admission, whereas the "My Trent" website said it said "admittance conditional".

Anyone else encounter similar situations?
