Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

Congrats!.. I still don't see the UofT Class of 2016 Facebook page...

I wish I could update my OUAC, but my account is closed since I'm an internal student.

Sigh this is frustrating. Grr Facebook. Is there a way I could share/post the link without breaking the TOS?

This is a silly question I know but for those who received offers from UofT, what time of day did they come? If they send all the offers for each day out at 10am for example, it would save me from neurotically refreshing my inbox the rest of the day :)

I received mine on Friday, 2:09 pm

Thanks!

and 353pm on a Tuesday. So, seems pretty random. guess it's back to constantly refreshing the inbox then, lol. At least now I know to wait until after lunch

Would those of you who got accepted to UofT mind sharing your stats?! :)

@Mighty_atom, I was wondering the same thing! Guess it really is random…not sure if it helps, but I am also refreshing my inbox about 10 million times a day LOL…This waiting game is torture.

Does anyone know if they still have lots of "new" offers going out, or is our only chances if people already offered acceptances reject theirs?

Good luck to everyone out there!

UofT said they'll start sending out offers in April, so I'm certain there are more offers coming out soon. I'm not sure if the offers sent earlier were just to internal applicants or all applicants. Is there anyone here who's received an offer from UofT who is not an internal applicant?

I'm not an internal applicant and received an offer last week. I'm applying from Alberta and am a UVic biology graduate, so I am very much from out of province! Honestly, I was really surprised (and thrilled) to hear from UofT so early! Their admission package gives us 2 weeks to accept the offer. That means that offers will likely be sent out in batches over the next few months depending on applicant responses. Last year many people received offers in April - so there is still a chance you'll hear something good this month!

Thank you for answering, I am now officially freaking out :p what are your stats/activities, if you don't mind?

Don't freak out yet! I'm not sure how UofT organized their offers; I'm sure that many highly qualified candidates are still waiting like you and will receive an offer soon! I provided my details on a previous post but briefly: I have a BSc in biology, with undergrad research experience. I volunteered for the past 2 years in diverse areas including childcare, SPCA, women's shelter, therapeutic riding center, and even veterinary clinics. My work experience is also highly varied and includes field research assistant, lab assistant, administrative assistant for clinical research doctors, barista, server, and animal care technician. My cGPA is 3.7, in last 10 courses 3.75, and in pre-reqs 3.75. So my grades and experiences are a mixed bag, but I think it was because I presented myself as a strong candidate in my supplemental application that really helped me. I spent a lot of time and effort on it, and I think it showed how I benefited from my diverse experiences.

I know it's agonizing to wait on the sidelines (that's how I felt just a week ago!) but I promise that patience and positive-thinking will get you through this. If you are confident in yourself and your experiences, no matter how they compare to those of other applicants, then you will be successful. Best of luck!

I called Bloomberg Admissions, and someone picked up! The lady I spoke to was extremely helpful. Here's what I learned:

- Early acceptances were sent out electronically on March 21st

- Now until June will be regular rolling admissions (fingers crossed for all those who are still waiting)

- The JoinUofT page (UofT admissions) is update 1-2 days after your email from Bloomberg. The welcome package is then sent out by UofT admissions. Canada Post takes over from here...

- Bloomberg will be over-accepting students in May! This is in anticipation that not all students will accept their offer

- Those with offers need to respond by June 2nd, 2014. There is a form, included in your welcome package, and a $500 deposit you need to send back to the admissions office. The deposit goes towards your tuition fees, and is not extra.

- If you do not get a package 3 weeks from the day of your email...then call the admissions office at Bloomburg, not the general UofT office. (It's so early right now, I was told not to worry about late packages)

- Wait-listed applicants will be notified after June 2nd

I hope this eases your minds a little!

Thank you SO much Lyn.31

It is so helpful to just have a clearer picture of how they are pursuing the acceptance offers. I wish they just posted that right off the bat, but in any case thanks for looking into it and taking the time to write us and update us all!

Guess we just have to stay positive and try to remain calm LOL :woot:

Yes, what Margaretvw said. Thank you for the investigative reporting! It is only April 1. deep breaths.
