Hello!
I hope I am posting this question in the correct thread/section. I'm a senior nursing student from Cleveland, about to graduate in Jan 2016. I am looking extremely hard to find a nurse residency in the Seattle area. I was confused about UW's nursing residency program. It seems that it's listed as a "job posting" rather than a typical application. For example, UCLA's RN Residency program is very clear. Applications are due Oct 5-11 and interview invites sent out in November and you will hear back if you are accepted in December.
I'm just a bit confused about UW's program and how it works.
Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if Swedish's Residency program dates are only in July, August and November? Will I have to wait that long and go on without a job (once I pass my NCLEX) until July?
Thank you for taking time to read this! Any information would be extremely helpful!
I read from a previous thread that if you live out of state, then u can just do phone/skype interview even for the panel interview so I'm hoping they wont require us to fly for an in-person interview. My preference were General Med Surg, Telemetry, and Psych. Good luck to us. Pls let me know how it went.
I have a question for anyone who knows the answer to this:
When I filled out my application for Swedish, when asked about preferred units, it listed Telemetry, Intermediate Care Unit, and Progressive Care unit. Can anyone tell me the difference between these three units specifically to Swedish? I know Swedish has at least the same staffing as here in California, and our ratios are Telemetry 1:4 and Step Down 1:3. So... are IMCU and PCU both the same as step down? Sorry if this is a stupid question, just curious in terms of picking my top choice units.
Thanks!!
Z
Had my phone interview today!
The recruiter is very nice. Very simple questions. She said she definitely wants to schedule me for second interviews with the CVICU, MICU and Tele unit to try and get me in somewhere! She said the managers are very accommodating with using video conferencing for out of state applicants.
Good luck to the rest of you! Keep us posted.
Hi there!
I am graduating in September with my BSN. I just got contacted by HR for a phone interview (i'm out of state) for the nurse residency program and am super excited! For the phone interview will they let us know which units are looking for students/which hospital locations? Also, is there a for sure start date? I know online it says august-october?
Any last minute words of wisdom before the interview?
Congrats on the interview! Don't be nervous. I was so nervous for the week leading up to it and there was really no need. The start date is October 24th. She'll ask why you want to work at Swedish, why nursing, preferred unit and why, favorite clinical, what makes a good rn resident, healthcare related experience, and school leadership experience. She will also offer all of the information you need regarding salary, preemployment screenings (background check, drug test, etc- all this info is available on the union website too). At the end she will ask if you have any questions and you can ask about what specific units are hiring. It was my understanding that pretty much all units listed on the application will be holding interviews. It seems like this year is a huge hire. I had some questions regarding the difference between certain units (IMCU, PCU, Tele) and she was happy to answer them. She said she is going to try and get me interviews in my top 3 units to hopefully give me good odds of getting in somewhere! She also said that the managers are really busy right now interviewing for the August cohort, so we probably won't hear about the unit interviews until end of July. And they can use video conferencing for us out of state applicants (I'm in Cali).
What state are you from and what units do you want to apply for?
Thank you Zar963! That doesn't sound too bad for the first interview! I am from Oregon but am finishing up my BSN in PA, so the fact that they can video conference is great! Do you know if all the positions are for their main campus, or would we be spread throughout all of the locations? As for now my top choices are L&D, NICU, or ICU.
Hello ZAR963! I was wondering if you got a call back for the panel interview? They told me I should hear back from them by the end of July. Would u mind emailing me if u heard anything and if i heard anything, i can let u know as well. My email is [email protected]
Hi emersonarchi,
The recruiter assured me she will be scheduling me for interviews with critical care and telemetry. I contacted her yesterday to check in because I had some questions. She said they have not gotten to scheduling unit interviews yet and are still playing around with the start date so it might not be exactly Oct. 24th like it said originally.
hi everyone, just had my interview with the recruiter today and i think it went well. the interview was very straight forward and she talked more about the program and that she wanted move me further which made me so happy. I asked how many people they were planning to hire and she said she doesnt know specifically for each unit but in total will be about 150-200 people which i thought was crazy cause that is probably unheard of where im from in cali which maybe gives us higher chances? they are possibly extending their date from oct 24 to sometime in november so she told me i would hear back from her around early to mid august to schedule the next panel interview. they are not sure whether it will be in person so they will have to fly me out or skype. (but im assuming it will be skype based on other responses from out of state applicants). for anyone who did the skype interview, how did it go for you? what kind of questions did they ask? behavioral or scenario? ive done other interviews and the questions that she asked me on the phone interview are usually the questions they ask so im not sure what other questions they will ask. any advice would be appreciated. thanks!

I'm from SoCal! Good luck!!! I hear the first one is pretty straight forward getting to know you type questions. Do you know if they require in-person interviews at any point? Obviously I would if needed, but just curious because I still have six weeks of school left. What department are you going for? I'm hoping for anything progressive or intensive.
