Seattle's UWMC/Swedish Nursing Residency 2016

Hello!

I hope I am posting this question in the correct thread/section. I'm a senior nursing student from Cleveland, about to graduate in Jan 2016. I am looking extremely hard to find a nurse residency in the Seattle area. I was confused about UW's nursing residency program. It seems that it's listed as a "job posting" rather than a typical application. For example, UCLA's RN Residency program is very clear. Applications are due Oct 5-11 and interview invites sent out in November and you will hear back if you are accepted in December.

I'm just a bit confused about UW's program and how it works.

Also, I was wondering if anyone knew if Swedish's Residency program dates are only in July, August and November? Will I have to wait that long and go on without a job (once I pass my NCLEX) until July?

I ended up accepting a position on the cardiac telemetry unit at cherry hill! Super excited to start. Anyone else starting the end of the month as well?

They called me last Thursday about the cardiac unit but I was waiting til yesterday to find out about neuro icu before accepting. I was told all offers had to go out by yesterday. For me rejections came via email and offers came via phone call.

Hey ZAR963, I panel interviewed for neuro/tele on 3E at Cherry Hill this last Wednesday (10-05). I was told that the nurse recruiter would contact me on Friday (10-07), but I didn't hear anything, not even an e-mail.

Is this the same unit you accepted the offer for?

Is it for certain that all offers for the residency program was to go out by this last Friday? Where did you hear that?

Are e-mails sent out if the position goes to another candidate?

I haven't heard anything from my interview for General surgical either. No email or phone call so Im still waiting. Its been over 4 weeks since my last panel interview. I emailed the recruiter and she said that they're still deciding! This whole wait has been kind of stressful. I have a residency offer for another hospital but still waiting for Swedish and see if they have an offer for me. If not, i'll accept the other hospital's offer.

That's reassuring. I hope you get offered the position. Such a long wait without any feedback, it's already stressful being a few days. I'm hoping Zar wasn't interviewing for the same position I was! But then again, kudos to Zar :).

That's still nice to have another offer. Is it another residency? I have a phone interview with Virginia Mason next week.

Oh good I'm glad some are still deciding. I was told by cardiac telemetry and Neuro ICU this 10/7 was their deadline, but they have been behind with everything so I'm not surprised that it's been extended. I took cardiac telemetry at cherry hill, not neuro tele. Same campus, different unit. Yes, rejections are sent out via email and offers by phone. (I received two rejections and one offer)

Yes its a nurse residency position at a renal unit. I got an offer 5 hours after I had the interview for that hospital. Good luck with your upcoming phone interview. Are u from out of state?

Did they tell you if they're extending the start date of the Fall cohort? Or is it still October 24? I'm very happy for you that at least you got an offer from Swedish. I'm hoping they'd give the General Surgical residency position. I'm sad if they dont. But if not, I have the residency offer from another hospital waiting for me.

Yeah it's great you have a backup plan! Yes, it does start October 24th. She said the onboarding process can be done remotely (background check, drug screen, etc), so you don't have to be up there until the first day. I was worried because my apartment is not going to be ready until the weekend before the start date. They also have a great relocation package and assist with your move.

@ZAR They've been very slow with the hiring process. I've been in contact with them since July that's why I'll be disappointed if I dont get a job offer from Swedish haha. Hoping that I'll get at least an answer by Monday or something since they're not moving the start date of October 24. For the other hospital that offered me the residency, they'll start about 2nd week of November. Best of luck to you! Kinda bummed that we're not on the same residency cohort since we've been in contact since July I think haha

I'm from Washington, a local if you will. Just finished school in August and licensure last week. Where will you two (emersonarchie and ZAR) be moving from?

I too heard the start date is the 24th of October, with remote access to some of the onboarding.

Hopefully Monday will come with a job offer so I can call off the Virginia Mason interview - they don't have a residency.
