Seattle University DNP 2020 Cohort (RN or APNI)

Updated:   Published

I didn't see any content here on Allnurses regarding the 2020 cohort for Seattle University's APNI-DNP program so I will start one here. Anyone else applying?

Hi @loveandhope20!

In the webcast they mentioned that they don't expect anyone to have medical experience but that work experience as a whole and one's references should serve to support the overarching question of whether or not we can handle the heavy workload and high stress of the program (especially the 1st year). Basically a competitive candidate has an overall G.P.A. of at least 3.25, (they give separate scores to three areas: last two years of your undergrad degree, your cumulative G.P.A. from A&P I & II and Microbiology, followed by a cumulative G.P.A. from any subsequent degrees or courses) a good resume, and a cohesive Letter of Intent. But they also stressed that they look at the whole person and one of these areas alone wouldn't necessarily disqualify or qualify someone. I'm sure your work experience will stand out on your resume! I hope my rambling helps! Best of luck to you!
February is creeping up (thank goodness!)!

@Kara Vollman Thank you for your response I really appreciate it! Good luck to you as well! I guess I am just worried bc I was a science major and graduated college at 38 weeks pregnant, so my grades weren't the greatest for my last year of college. I just took A&PI, A&PII, Micro and did really well, just worried about it. I am hoping for the best though!

We're getting close to hearing back! I saw on other forums some people received emails as early as January (granted it was late January).

Has anyone else also applied to the PLU EL-MSN program?

@Dylan Miller waiting patiently! Hopefully things stay on track for the word to come in early Feb ?

omg what if we all get rejected

Let's try to be optimistic for all candidates ?

Good idea. At least if we all get rejected there's always next year! ?

I'm confident that won't be the case. There seems to be a lot of qualified individuals within this thread, and I'm sure we'll hear from new applicants as February approaches.

Stay positive, folks! Interview invitations shouldn't be too far away.

@emmaCC I reapplied to the AG-Acute Care speciality for 2020. I was waitlisted last cycle. Good to know the applicant admissions was so small.

Hi Chris! Good to know someone else who applied to this focus. I just found out that there were 25 applicants for this cycle for APNI-DNP in acute care. They are still only accepting 4 students, as far as they know.

Thats great that you were waitlisted last time! Do you have a lot of healthcare/acute care experience? I was a CNA for 3 years and did a lot of work in the ER and ICU at UWMC. Other than that, I have EMT training, but I am not sure that will be enough to compete with the other candidates. Also I am only 22 and will just be coming out of my undergraduate in Medical Anthropology and Global Health.

@EmmaCC, hello, best of luck to you. Sounds like you've got some awesome experience to bring to the table.

I am wondering how you found out the size of the applicant pool for your focus??

Thank you ?

@rachel.leone Hi, I emailed Troy Sterk, an advisor, asking about it. You have to be specific, though, because they count the RN-DNP and APNI-DNP separately, so you want to ask about ONLY the APNI-DNP applicant pool for your focus. We will all find out soon enough though! I heard there were 75 applicants for FNP this round and they are looking to let in 25.
