I didn't find any threads on Seattle University BSN for Fall 2014; just wanted to know who else is applying!

SU was my first (optimistic) choice. I also applied to Bellevue College but won't hear back until late April-early May. If I can swing the finances, I will be at SU for sure!

csweet, what is your opinion about the difference in course load at SU compared to an ADN program like Bellevue? I feel confident (especially after your reassurance) my husband is convinced that SU will consume far more of my time.

Honestly, I don't think the load at SU would be much more than any ADN program. And you get done a year faster. I would take the opportunity at SU if you can swing it. I really expected our fall quarter to much more difficult than it was- I don't remember if you have any medical experience, but if you do-it will help. Winter quarter was a bit more difficult because of Pharm. There is a lot to memorize but if you are organized and start memorizing right away you'll be fine. I have been able to help out at home more than I expected and still have good grades. I have heard that spring quarter junior year is the hardest, so we'll see how that plays out. ;) Plus, SU students have a great reputation and that will help when you are done and looking for a job.

csweet, do you know how many students were pulled off the waitlist the year that you applied?

No, sorry. I don't know. I think they accept more than they need because of students going to other programs, so I would imagine it really varies. I wish I could be more helpful.

No worries, csweet! Thanks for replying. They said I won't be hearing back until mid-May so the waiting continues for me, but I'm trying to stay optimistic.

you're welcome! I hope enough people go elsewhere so you can get it!

For all that got accepted, I am currently looking through SU's BSN handbook (2013-2014) and there's a section (page 32) that explains how every student is required to have a Background Check, Health Assessment/Physical Examination, Immunization, etc. I was wondering when do we have to get these things done? I don't see any deadlines, I'm assuming get them done before we start the program?

Also under the "Transfer Student Checklist" is tells us to report out immunization records and that...

"Nursing students: you will need to complete the immunization requirements of Seattle University, but also the requirements for the College of Nursing in the BSN Health Packet."

Does anyone know where to find the BSN Health Packet?

Thanks

The packet is sent out early June and you have until the end of August to complete it. The biggest thing is if you have questions or have problems with getting documentation let the coordinator know (their info will be in the packet).

Aww, Brooke and Husky, I logged on hoping for good news. :( Brooke, with your experience, you will definitely get in to a good program even if it isn't this one or right now. Try to keep your chin up! I've been there. So sorry you guys...

csweet, once again, thank you so much for the advice! I really feel like SU is the way to go. Now I just need financial aid to convince my husband. :)

Thank you csweet, your posts have been extremely helpful! Thank you

Did anyone go to the open house yesterday? I'm planning to go to the one this Saturday but am wondering how much useful information there will be.

Hey Justdance14, I went to the open house on april 6. It was for freshmen. I received an email inviting me to the open house for transfer student for may. I might also go to that one so I can meet some fellow transfer nursing classmate. csweet, can u provide me the book list that u used for your cohort. I am thinking of renting an apartment so I probably need a roomate.

pugloves-- go to seattle u's website, click on the tab that says student life, and then go to campus store (found under services on the left side of the popup) you can search for your text books there. The native cohort starts their nursing classes spring quarter and they are the same as the transfer classes in the fall. so just bring up the spring quarter nursing classes. select classes 300-301, 302-303 and 304. I would not buy any text books yet, because I heard they are restructuring the 301 class. also do NOT buy the pathophysiology book brand new. I did not even open it during fall quarter (okay I opened it once, but quickly closed it :) ) . BUT you will need to buy it, because you will need it in winter and spring for your care plans, so just get the 4th edition for fall. I ended up selling my brand new 5th edition at the end of the quarter and just had to buy the 4th ed for my clinical write ups. Which was actually fine, but it would have been nice to know that ahead of time. I buy my books on amazon or barnes and noble and they are cheaper there, and amazon has a good buy back program. I also have amazon student prime so I can get my books shipped 2 day for free, and 1 day for usually less than $6. which came in handy when i realized I would need the patho book and needed it NOW. :)

Also, there are nursing FB pages under Seattle U. so look for those. You can ask questions there. At some point I am sure someone will start a transfer cohort 2016 page too.
