I didn't find any threads on Seattle University BSN for Fall 2014; just wanted to know who else is applying!
Hang in there Husky and Brook! I applied to Seattle University last year and was not accepted. I was really disappointed. I didn't let my disappointment stop me and ended up applying for 2014 admission and got accepted. I went back and completely scrapped my essay (which was difficult since I worked so hard on the essay for the previous year). After I received my rejection letter, I ended up winning a scholarship to travel to Portugal for a few weeks with Habitat for Humanity! Having an extra year to save up has also put me in a better financial position. I guess what I am saying is that things happen for a reason and although not getting in is a huge let down, maybe it happened for a reason and this next year will bring opportunities you never expected. Hang in there and if you need anything next year when you apply again, let me know and I will help if I can!
Hey Guys!
I was accepted into the fall cohort and would like to make a facebook page so people can start getting to know each other and help make arrangements for the fall. Before I can make the page I need to have people to add. Click this: to find me of Facebook and add me so I can make the page. ( You'll need to have linked your SU email to facebook in order to be added)
Can't wait to get to know you all!!
I was just looking through my Program Evaluation Sheet (the page that displays the classes needed) again and had a question about the Module III section. I understand that transfer students need to take Theological Explorations UCOR 2100, Phil of the Human Person UCOR 2500, Health Care EthicsUCOR 2920, and Humanities and Global Challenges UCOR 3400.I will be receiving my Associates in Arts and Sciences - Direct Transfer Agreement (AAS-DTA) at the end of Spring Quarter 2014 after finishing my last two classes, English 201 and Geography 100 (Social Science Course).
Under Module III section it tells me to complete...
-Religion in a Global Context UCOR 3100
-Humanities and Global Challenges UCOR 3400
-Social Science/Physical-Life Science and Global Challenges (UCOR 3600 OR UCOR 3800)
So I know I will be taking UCOR 3400 during the program and Social Science/Physical-Life (UCOR 3600 OR UCOR 3800) should be satisfied by my Geography 100 course, but my question is about the UCOR 3100, when do I take this? Before I start the program or during the program?
Thanks
Thanks to the ladies who added me so we can get the group going! I know it early but I figure it best to get a head start on getting to know who we will spend the next 2+ years with. Click the link to join the group! you can also search: Seattle University Nursing Transfer Cohort 2016
So how does native and transfer cohort work? I'm guessing transfers are obviously the transfers starting in the fall.
But what the deal with the natives starting their nursing coursework in spring?
Are they always going to be one quarter ahead of the transfers? Which would mean the classes that start in the fall will just all be transfers?

Yes, native cohort is one quarter ahead. The classes in the fall will be nearly all transfers, although there may be a couple natives or previous cohort students mixed in.
So I'm assuming that unless you are specified as a native you are just a transfer? Sorry don't mean to butt in just had not heard of that before. Also csweet, how early are the classes typically and in the program will we be going 5 days a week. Just curious so I can go ahead and get into a routine? Thanks !!
I was also wondering what a typical week would look like. I know lecture is typically Mondays and Fridays. How long are are the shifts for the clinical portion. I'm trying to plan and give my employer an idea of how many hours I will be able to work in the fall. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
collegebound, the natives are the students accepted to SU out of high school that take their pre-req's at SU. As long as they continue to meet the GPA requirements they start their nursing classes Spring of their Junior year. Correct me if I'm wrong, csweet?
natives start in spring of their sophomore year. :) The rest was correct. They graduate spring of their senior year, unlike transfer students who walk in june, but do senior practicum over summer and have their pinning ceremony in august. So as Justdance said natives are accepted right out of HS and take all nursing pre-reqs at SU, transfers are everyone else.
All you that are going to SU can acually look up fall classes schedules. You go to SUonline (there is a link on the top of SU's website) you can look as a guest or if you have a log in, you can do it under your own log in. Just put in that you are looking for Fall 2014 classes, select Nursing, and all nursing classes will pop up. Uh okay, actually I just checked and for some reason the classes you will be taking aren't listed. I have heard that they are restructuring some of the classes so maybe that is why. I can tell you what my schedule was, but that might not be helpful anymore!? I had 2 classes- M/F on in the morning from 7:30-9:10, big break and then one in the afternoon from 12-3. T/TH i had lab for 3 hrs. each day (8:30-11:30) there was also an afternoon one offered. Wed I had two more classes, one was an online class, and the other was a communication lab from 10-12. The Comm lab I think is the main one that is being restructured. It was held in morning or afternoon. Fall was busy for me just from a commuting stand point because I had to be on campus every day. Winter I had 4 classes (3 theory, 1 lab) all on M/F. basically 7:45-3. and then I had clinical on Thursday.
This quarter I have UCOR on t/th from 10-12, Friday classes from 7:45-12 and then 12 hr clinical on Saturday. Most people have 2 8 hr clinicals on either tue/wed or wed/thurs. there are a few others that have 12 hr clinicals on either tues, wed, or thurs. hope that helps :)

Another spot is open at SU!
I was accepted today at PLU, so I'll be graciously declining my acceptance at Seattle U. I'm monumentally thankful for the opportunity to become a nurse, and to have been accepted at both schools. SU is undoubtedly an excellent school, and though I'll be heading down a different path, I look forward to seeing some of you out in the trenches down the road.
Best Wishes,
James
