Seattle University APNI 2015

Published

Well, I know it's early.

Anyone applying for 2015 start?!?

@lexi1822

Thanks! Isn't it weird how the programs work? I did not believe I was going to get into MGH at all & thought I had a better chance of getting into Seattle, yet here we are! It's funny how each school looks at very similar applicants extremely differently. Although I did not apply for psych at MGH I was accepted for Women's Health/Adult Gerontology but I know that psych is highly impacted at MGH since it is Top 10 I believe, but again, who knows!

GL w/ UCSF. I am from Bay Area & thought about applying, but didn't have everything ready so was going to apply if I didn't get in anywhere during my first round of apps. Did you happen to apply to USF as well? I'm anxiously waiting for them!

@ginger_99, I didn't apply to USF because they don't have a Psych specialty. I ended up not getting into UCSF, or I'm "waitlisted," maybe. Pretty bummed, so I think I will be Columbia bound. I'm drawn to Seattle because it's closer and a lot cheaper than Columbia, but Columbia may seem like the better program for psych. It's a tough choice. Good luck as you hear from schools!!

Did anyone get an FNP invite? Are they rolling more of those out?

Got a CNM invite for the 28th today! So glad they're finally sending more out.

Is it weird that I love hearing the thought process behind how people finalize what school to go to? There are so many factors and moving pieces in making this big decision and I love hearing how everything comes together!

I was wondering, did anyone take the CLEP test to fulfill their Math requirement?

I'm debating whether or not to take a CLEP or enroll in a course.

If you enrolled in a course locally, which class did you take and where?

On the course equivalency guide I can't seem to find an actual equivalent - let me clarify. There are "course equivalents" on the equivalency guide, but at the community colleges near me the equivalent course listed on the guide is no longer used by that name.

Does that make sense?

I took the CLEP. I studied on the own for a couple weeks and then took it...and passed. Hallelujah!

Atki, did you use any specific study materials?

@may25 I used the videos on the education portal website. They're geared towards the clep test and I found them really helpful. The only problem is that they used to be free but now you have to pay

@MAY25 I think i'm going to take the Math at Pierce College Military online. They offer online classes that are starting a few weeks from now. The course you are looking for (at least at Pierce) is called Math 147 Business PreCalculus.

Military - Pierce College District 11

Ahh, thank you for the clarification! I took my psych class through Pierce College Military and I really enjoyed it because I was able to work at my own pace and I finished it very quickly!

@May25 Pierce College Military is awesome! I took mostly all of my pre-reqs there. They have such an excellent operation.

Well guys, I had my interview today. WOW. Such an incredible experience. I have been nervous for the past week and so anxious preparing for this interview, but as soon as I got started I felt myself relax. There were quite a few people there, but it didn't feel intimidating at all. They were all so warm and friendly and open. I feel as though I got to express everything that I have been feeling for years, I feel like I really got to just talk about my passion and my journey that led me up to this point.

If you have an interview coming up - RELAX. I know, easier said than done. But I promise there are no trick questions and the environment is nothing but kind.

Also, one thing I didn't realize is if that you have been interviewed you are guaranteed a spot on the "wait list." I know it's not what anyone wants to hear, but at least it's not a complete rejection, right? Especially, considering a lot of applicants are choosing between multiple schools and other options. Obviously, it would be most flattering to be accepted the first round, but you know - it's life.

I just want to take a minute and say congrats to everyone who has been interviewed or is interviewing in the future. It's easy to feel so insignificant. But I learned at the interview that approximately 500 people applied to the APNI program, with about 200 interviewing. This program is ridiculously competitive, so to be interviewed means you're something special. We've all worked so hard and while the race isn't over yet, it's okay to congratulate yourself for coming this far. I definitely feel really at peace with all the hard work I've put in after that interview, it's not going unnoticed.
