I've been a reader of these message boards for some time and thought I'd finally start participating. I didn't see a thread for the SU APNI 2011 application process, so I thought that as the deadline is this week I would start a thread and see how everyone's process went. I'm interested in the primary care np track myself.
I second vmae99's words of encouragement. Both friends I have that ended up getting slots in FNP tracks were initially on the waitlist: one at SU and one here at VCU. I am currently on the waitlist for VCU's program but would prefer SU if it works out. There are many people who apply to a handfull of programs and inevitably have to decline offers elsewhere.
I "third" the words of encouragement to jbsu, and a huge congratulations to vmae99!!!
All of these programs are incredibly competitive, and I feel like there's lots of switching around before programs start and waitlisters make it in all the time! I was waitlisted for a few schools when I first applied to college and from talking to admissions officers, they truly believe every one who they waitlist is qualified and capable. Keep us updated, and keep bugging the crap out of them, I hear that helps too!
I'm so sorry angeljs! I know how passionate you are about this, and I felt that you were a really strong applicant. All of us know that many students come off of the waitlist and that you still have a really good chance at getting a spot from the waitlist, but I can totally understand that you feel disappointed now. I don't think its at all time to re-evaluate anything yet, though! You clearly have a passion for this and just like mef06011 said, anyone who is on a waitlist clearly has the right stuff for the program and profession. The fact that there is a real chance that you will be offered a spot means that they believe you would be a positive addition to the field of advance practice nursing and would be completely confident that you would do a great job in the program.
I applied to two schools for direct entry, and was waitlisted at the school here in Virginia, so I completely understand your disappointment. Really, though, the reality is that there is far fewer spots for the well qualified applicants than there should be. If this was "not for you" at all, the faculty would have not been confident enough to put you on the waitlist. I've been hearing this from those close to me for a few weeks, and its finally sinking in for me.
I think it would be a loss to the nursing field if you decided to go another direction! :-(
Did anyone else just get an e-mail from grad admissions that says:
"Please take a few minutes to complete our Admitted Graduate Student Survey by clicking here. We hope to learn more about you and what factors inform your decision to accept or decline the offer of admission to Seattle University"
I haven't received anything in the mail, so I'm nervous to start celebrating. I think someone in admissions may have jumped the gun...

I got the same email around the same time that you must have received yours. Nothing in the mail yet. I feel that this is probably an automated message that was scheduled to be sent out after decisions were made. Since statuses began changing last Friday, but they were slow in mailing letters/packages, I think that there's a pretty good chance this is a good thing!
