Seattle University APNI Program 2018

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I'm interested in applying to the APNI program at SU. I've been reading a lot of the forums from other years, and have found it's quite competitive! I would love to hear from other people, and their track. Or if someone is in the program and has any advice about what they like in an applicant. Thank you!

I was beat out by Several highly competitive applicants last year, and I was also following these posts wondering what made them top tier. I'd be happy to discuss your application materials and background and provide constructive feedback if that helps. I'm also willing to provide mine.

And yes, they did give me a drink of water!

Lol that's great, you must've really been parched. I really wanted to move to Seattle, was waiting to see what that school would say. It wasn't only about the University but the location. I was sick of the too cold winters. It's about 55 degrees in Seattle and over here it's 31. I got into jhu. My undergrad was 3.92. Prerequisites was 4.0. Did not do any volunteer work, just clinicals when I did my cna. Yes jhu is a great and prestigious school, but the weather isn't. And I'd have to go back for a certificate for what I wanted to do. I'm happy non the less. No hard feelings just a joke to liven things up.

Well, I don't have any prestige behind my name. My grades are similar to yours in several respects.

I have worked in Verious Heathcare Roles (Surgical Tech/Surgical Assist, CNA in Major Hospital, Wound Care, Incology, Emergency Department, family practice, labor and delivery, and Psychology). I've been in Healthcare since 2007 in various roles.

Since then I have been tutoring RN's at a local Vocational School for about 2 years, as well as co teaching Pathophysiology and Medical Math for Nurses, and even tutoring 1st and 2nd quarter SU APNI Students!

Meanwhile I'm the Area trainer for American Bone Health and Work as a Homless Youth Counselor and resource specialist.

So yea, no fancy school names, just hard work and immersion in multiple fields of healthcare and social services. A dedication to practice and preparation for this role, which has been the culmination of several years!

********

on just a feedback note, it sounds like you could benefit from gaining Volunteer and healthcare experience.

Why not Hopkins Nursing?

Sounds good. I hope you get in. I've been applying, calling, emailing, it seems over here they don't answer there phones in hospitals, Dr offices etc. Go over and no one knows who to send you to. It's a mess. I got into jhu direct entry msn program. Wanted to be gone from the east coast though. I'll probably end up going there.

Just my opinion, you got into a Excellent Program. Hopkins Masters Direct Entry!

Thank you. I just wanted a change is all.

Absolutely! And I felt the same!

In the grand scope of things, I can see from an Admissions point of view the challenge of accepting you on the sole basis that you already recieved a very rare opportunity.

I can't help but wonder why you could not finish your MSN at Hopkins! It's such a rare opportunity you have been given.

I personally have never to recognition from any Ivy.

I haven't attended yet, I was just accepted for the fall term

Just in my Opinion, I'd take that opportunity! 100%

Does anyone know if there is another group for potential Apni students other than allnurse? I know previous years there have been FB groups made.
