SDSU Fall 2012 admission hopefuls

Published

Good luck everybody! I really hope that you all get in. This is a really stressful time in our academic careers, so let's use this thread to comfort each other and to answer each others questions about the admissions process. And at one point or another, celebrate our admission in the SON. Thank you very much!

Sorry for posting again, I actually had the paperwork handy (shocking!!! lol)

We had a maximum of 77 points available.

10-15 for TEAS

10-15 for applicable work experience

5 points for Volunteer health care experience

up to 30 points for GPA

Then we had additional points for language and... there was something else that I evidently tore out of the package. I had 74 points, myself.

ETA: One page says Maximum Possible 90, but we definitely had a maximum available of 77 as it states on another section. I think they nixed one of the GPA requirements for us.

This is my current points:

Core preg GPA: All As 30/30

GPA: 3.5 18

Teas: 84% 11/15

Volunteer: 5 points

Total: 64/90 about 71%

So do you guys think i have any chance of getting in? Comparing my points to some people in here I feel a bit inferior lol...but I'm banking on my Core preg since I have All As in that. Also do you guys know if they only pick by ranking or they have a cut off points and then consider qualify individual situations.

@ Coriander- How long is the program? I can't remember, did you say you were almost done with the program? Also how many units have you/are you taking per semester roughly? If I'm annoying you with questions just let me know. I keep thinking of things the longer we wait! lol

@ thongvo- i have no idea whats good and whats not thats what's crappy! Everyone is on the edge of their seat! It should be any day now that we find out. I found out from Channel Islands so I assuming we should hear soon;however, I've been saying "soon" for like a week now lol!

I'm happy to answer questions; they're not annoying at all!!! :)

The nursing program itself is 5 semesters. I am done next month. Units can range from 12 - 18 depending on the upper division general courses that you have to take, or if you're involved in preceptorships or physical education courses on the side. I would suggest keeping your first semester ONLY the core nursing courses, so you can figure out how you want to move along in the program. :)

i reallyappreciate all your help, thank you very much!! it's very nice to have guidanceand advice. oh and congrats to almost being done that’s so damn exciting!!!!yay!!!! so i applied to channel islands and i just got my acceptance letter soi'm trying to weigh my pro's and con's. at this point what i'm trying todetermine is if i were to go to channel islands i would be there for 3 halfyears or 6 semesters and two summers and if i went to sdsu knowing i only have5 semesters would that be too overwhelming because i would have more units persemester? what do you think? i know i will be working my ass off but i justwant to make sure if i do decide to go to sdsu that i wouldn't be overloaded. iexpect a lot of hard work, dedication, and commitment from any program. channelislands is also saying we might have to travel up to 60 miles to do ourclinicals. how far would we travel for clinicals in sdsu program? how would yousay your experience at sdsu nursing program has been? i couldn't imagineanything but awesome! again, thank you so much for your help. thank you fortaking the time to come on here and answer our questions considering you'revery busy yourself i’m sure!!

Congrats on channel islands!!

i'm going to put my answers in bold. :)

congratulations on your acceptance to ci! sdsu was a 6 -semester program until a few years ago. they consolidated our medical-surgical into two semesters instead of three. this makes them a little more intense, but not overloaded. you can also take classes over the summers, and take classes during your other semesters of nursing school.

channelislands is also saying we might have to travel up to 60 miles to do ourclinicals. how far would we travel for clinicals in sdsu program?

our policy is the same. some people live in chula vista and had to drive to oceanside. some people live in ramona and had to drive to la jolla.

how would yousay your experience at sdsu nursing program has been? i couldn't imagineanything but awesome! again, thank you so much for your help. thank you fortaking the time to come on here and answer our questions considering you'revery busy yourself i’m sure!!

my experience has been an excellent one, because i've made it that way. there will be hard days and hard exams, but you pick yourself up and move on. it's hardest being so separated from my family, even though they live in town. between work, school, and my positions with cnsa, i don't have the time i would like to spend with them. they understand, though. :)

i would do it all over again.

Thank you guys!!!! I'm pretty stoked. It's a good back up plan in case I don't get into SDSU.

@ Coriander- Your so kind. Thank you for sharing everything and again answering all my questions. You are busy as heck!! I want to try and get involved in the CNSA. Sounds like an awesome thing to get into. Is it hard to become apart of it? Well my family lives here in ventura county area which is about 3 hours north of SD. That will be very hard for me, to be separated from family for sure but should be well worth it. Also, do you know if it's true that we only have 48 hrs to decline or accept the program, that is of course, if we get accepted? I'm assuming we will find out via e-mail from SON whether we are accepted or not? You've been so helpful I can't thank you enough.

One more question...Would you recommend taking summer courses? Would that help relieve some of the pressure/load during normal semesters or would it not make the much of a difference? It probably depends where the individual is at?

@icecrmlovr Did you only apply to SDSU? I live 2 hours north of SDSU! I would have to move to SD too and I'd prefer living with roommates in an apartment. Have you applied for housing already?

@IceCrmLovr

You're very welcome. My pleasure. Yes, I am busy, however it keeps me sane and out of trouble. :)

If you do decide to attend CI, they also have their own CNSA chapter. You can also find the California Nursing Students' Association state FB page online, if you use that service. CNSA is very easy to become involved in; you simply register at New Student Orientation, and from there, you can attend meetings or volunteer at events. It's a LOT of fun and you wouldn't believe the networking. Please feel free to private message me for any other questions, as I'm not sure how much advertising I can do about this wonderful organization. ;-) (That goes for the lot of you!)

My friend takes the Amtrak up to Ventura County quite often on the weekends to see her family. It's inexpensive and a nice way to travel. I've gone with her a couple of times. :)

I went back to find my acceptance email, and all it said was to respond immediately with confirmation of acceptance. This was because we had about 10 days to get ready for our first day of school. Yes, we found out REALLY late. lol It was interesting, to say the least!!!

I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you all, and please feel free to ask any further questions, or just vent, or openly stress about things. :)

@spiffyness- I applied to four colleges. How about you? I do live in Ventura County area so I will be moving down there for sure. I don't plan on applying for housing though. Are you looking to live on campus? I have a lot of work to do if I plan on going to SDSU. A lot of traveling back-n-forth just to figure out living arrangements let alone everything else for the program. I want to find out if we are accepted already!!

@coriander-Thank you thank you!! I will for sure look into CNSA. I really want to get involved for sure. I think just about all my questions have been answered. Well As soon as I find out my status I'll let you know. Thank you!
