Anyone hear anything from the school/school of nursing yet? Anxiously waiting here..
You're so welcome!
Another note: See if you all can reserve September 4th for a picnic. :) It's the day before Labor Day, so we won't be having class on that Monday. It's a good time to come meet everyone and relax. I'll be talking more about that at Orientation.
I can't wait to meet you all!
Just like how Anlido and Leeshay stated, how are we selected for which labs we are in during orientation? Is it a draw of the hat? Do they ask, "who wants 7 o clock clinicals" then everyone raises their hand? Pre-selected? Highest GPA?
I'm asking because just like leeshay (I want to take an additional course which is only possible if I select my own lab courses) and I'm commuting just like (Anlido) so my time selection for classes is critical?
R Clemens, a few posts back it was brought to our attention that you WILL be able to select your own courses. Of course, everyone has different registration times, and I'm not sure how they do that with nursing classes. With the regular classes, they assigned you a time based on your class status (junior, senior, etc.).
coriander,
you know how we have to fax copies of all our immunization records to student health services immediately. when i look at the check off lists, they want physical exam proof and medical history sheet too. do i fax them with my immunization records to student health services or i turn them in later?
i really appreciate all your time and answer.
hi coriander,is it gonna be more reasonable to just do my physical exam through the student health services just to make sure that i have everything for the nursing requirements?
p.s thanks for the previous reply
it doesn't matter where you have your physical, as long as you get that form signed off. :)
just contacted ---- and found out that the 3 weeks only applies if you are getting your physical exam/immunizations through the school. if you are getting all that stuff through your own doctor you don't have to worry about waiting 3 weeks.
yay! thanks for letting us know, quob!

i would say this is a good idea. that way it can be shoved into your chart and it's one less thing. if there is anything missing, you'll be able to fill in the blanks. :)
Hello Coriander,
With the new semester approaching, I have come to notice that there will be numerous items, supplies, and uniforms to purchase during orientation. An item such as a iPOD touch has been mentioned as a necessity for the school. If you may, please list some items or supplies that are required for nursing school. Assuming we don't require a SD exclusive item, I would like to purchase them all by myself. Also, to the best of your ability, please distinguish the difference of whether or not its required or slightly/highly recommended. Attempt to list everything for preparation for first semester. For instance, is a laptop required or recommended?
There are probably some things we HAVE to purchase exclusively at the school such as uniforms and all. So, please distinguish them.
For clarification, is the orientation on the 22nd for pre-licensed students or students with RN licenses?
Also, is the courtyard an actual classroom or is it a open wide space on campus?
Hi R_Clemens!
You'll need a stethoscope for sure, which you're welcome to purchase anywhere. I have a list at home of the other supplies we have to offer, and will type that up for you when I get home from work in the morning. Some things include a (very cool) clipboard which has a built-in calculator and a bunch of information on the clipboard itself.
There is a supply kit which is mandatory. This kit includes all of the medical supplies that you will be using to prepare yourself for clinicals. I do not have the complete listing of what is contained in the kit, but it has suction equipment and a Foley catheter kit, just so you get an idea of what it contains.
The iPOD touch I don't believe is necessary anymore, as they stopped making the model without the camera. I believe you're able to use any smartphone and will be downloading a program onto it called Nursing Central (it will be on your booklist).
Uniforms need to be purchased at New Student Orientation on the 23rd, as you will be trying them on and getting the school code necessary to purchase.
Hello, Coriander,
It's about the required international experience. We kind of discussed about this in the previous posts, but I just want to clarify.. On the nursing website, it says that all students brand new to SDSU as of fall 2010 are required to participate in an international experience. This includes all transfer students and first-time freshman. Since I am a transfer student for fall 2011, does that mean I am required to have an international experience?
Thanks.

Coriander,
Thank you for all of your help, and thank you for telling me you don't have an answer! I'd rather not get an answer than get the wrong answer :). I will make sure to call tomorrow before I start anything and screw anything up haha. Thanks again!
