Hi, I am new here. I ve been reading this forum for some days and I decide today to join. I would like to know how hard is the Teas V test. Who took it at SDSU? Was form B harder than form A? Thanks!

Hi,

Another person sent me a message about this as well so hopefully they look here because I can't send messages yet and I don't wana spam. but.... I did not take the TEAS Test at SDSU. I took the TEAS 4 at CSULB and I don't remember there being a form A or B. But if you want tips on this test, I recommend ordering or borrowing the TEAS test study guide from ATI. They had one in the library at my CC which I just borrowed every now and then. The questions in the study guide are very similar to the ones on the test.

Goodluck

yeah, at sdsu they just recently changed the TEAS test to a different form... I took the one that they had before. I hear that the newer one has more questions on anatomy and physiology. Although, I am not aware of the difference form A and B. Also, it might be helpful to start a new discussion.

Hi!

I took the TEAS at SDSU but can't remember which version or what number it was. Here is a great sticky about the TEAS V test that you might be able to receive help from. :)

Dear Coriander,

A couple of questions I have in regards to the following program...

1) The money that is reportedly brought to orientation ($1200.00) includes uniforms, supplies, and books. Are the textbooks the reason for the massive spending during orientation? Because, I am attempting to calculate the expenses, but it doesn't really make sense or add up. Please elaborate this for me on what other items we are purchasing. The reason I ask so early is because I am trying to budget my finances accordingly. Also, I have heard from students that we have to purchase an iPOD touch due to the apps you guys use in class. If I already have one, do I have to purchase another?

2) Since the 2 day workshop and orientation begins prior to move-in day in the dorms, would I practically have to rent out a motel/hotel during my 3 day stay to attend orientation/workshop? Because, I am not a local student and I'm coming from South Africa. I can only make the way one way trip directly to SD and not come back. The dorms do not open up until the orientation/workshop is complete.

3) You have mentioned that you were unsure of whether or not we select our scheduled times of our classes in contrast to the other years. Why would they make such a change for them to select the schedule for first semester nursing students? How does it hold any positive benefits? I am just really down on the fact that we are unable to select our scheduled times because there was this one class (non-nursing) I wanted to take to finish a minor. I always thought it was first come first served on whoever submitted their physicals were able to select first. But, whatever, it's completely out of my control.

Thank you for your time and congratulations on your future graduation~!

the books can be bought at a later time. the professors will be giving you their book list at orientation. the total i gave was what i spent because i bought the books on campus, but you can buy them on amazon.com or in any other store that sells textbooks.

for orientation, you will need probably about $200 cash (to be safe) for supplies and other necessities. the supplies include a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, calculator/clipboard combination, and other things that we have to offer you and the professors might require. if you buy your own stethoscope, then of course you don't need to purchase one at orientation. you will be buying your uniforms online using a credit card and cost about $200 for the top, pants, lab coat and cardigan jacket.

if you already have an ipod touch, you will not need to buy another one. we had to buy one without a camera, however these are not manufactured anymore, and the students last semester were able to use their own smartphones or ipod touches.

i wonder if you would be able to contact the dorm supervisor and inquire if you'd be able to move in a few days ahead of time? try contacting the school of nursing to see what can be done. perhaps there would be a "host family" for you to stay with during that time.

this part causes a lot of concern for students, and it's an answer i'm still unable to provide. i can tell you that it's usually advised for you to wait on that one class until a summer break or past your first semester. first semester is very challenging time-wise, and many people had a hard time taking an extra class. however, everyone is different. would you be able to tell me which class this would be, and i can see if anyone has mixed that with their nursing classes?

because you are a smaller class, i imagine that you'll still be able to fill your own schedules. there will be time for that during orientation, too, and there will be several of us here to assist you with that. as far as being scheduled for registration, i think that is based on how far you are in school. if you are a senior, junior, etc.

thank you for your time and congratulations on your future graduation~!

thank you so much! i look forward to meeting you. i'm thrilled that you are coming from south africa; having people from all over the world is really what makes our careers interesting! let me know if there are any other questions i can try to answer for you. hopefully you were able to glean some information from what i've written. :)

take care, and talk with you soon!

Dear Coriander,

In regards to the first and second questions, thank you for answering. Unfortunately, I will probably have to rent out a hotel/motel during my required visit. SON just said "too bad," HAHAHA. Dorms will not allow anyone in until the 26th, it's apart of their policy.

But, for the third question, I am still in distraught of not selecting my scheduled time. I would like to take a Calculus II course during the Fall concurrently with my Nursing courses. During my first year at UCLA, I managed to take a unit overload of 24 units of hard science courses in a quarter system, so I am confident of my abilities to take a full time schedule as a Nursing student, especially in a semester system. I understand the clinicals, lectures, and such take up a lot of time, but I strive in that type of environment where I am consistently productive. I hate taking a break!

I am also considering medical school in the late future and I have all of my medical school pre-requisites complete with the exception of Calculus. The California budget cuts this year will hinder the ability to offer classes to the according time for the Spring 2012. I checked the schedule of classes and I found a Calculus class that would fit in perfectly, assuming that I got the scheduled Nursing classes that I want. I sometimes just think it's a hassle being a Nursing student compared to all the other majors.

UGH. I'm so sorry they said that to you. I will send out an email and see if there is anything that can be done for you as far as being able to stay with someone for those few days until the dorms open.

Having looked at the CalcII schedule with the Nursing schedule, it is possible to do. I have sent an email out regarding being able to choose your classes, and will let you know as soon as I receive a response.

has anyone heard anything from nursing office since after they sent us the acceptance mail?

because i've heard during the summer, they usually send us an email about the class schedule and other infos..

i was just wondering if anyone recieved any news...

Dear Coriander,

Please inform me when you receive updated information in regards to selecting your schedule or not. Any possibility of appealing? Every other Cal State Nursing program lets you choose your schedule of classes depending on your registration time. I am so frustrated...

Hi wannabeee,

What would you like to know? I can answer many of your questions. If you're looking for information about the class schedule and registering, please see below. :)

lee_sHAY, I sent an e-mail about the schedule selection to our Chapter Nursing Students' Association President, and she doesn't know at the moment, either. If you haven't received an e-mail with clinical placements, then I would be led to believe that you will be selecting your own course times. Please try not to be frustrated with this process; there is always a way to make things work. :)

I brought up this possibility because it has been talked about before, and I wanted to be completely honest with the lot of you about what you might expect when you come in. At New Student Orientation, we will be working with you all to make sure that all of your concerns are covered, and to make your experience a good one. I will, of course, post here if I find out anything, however the committees that decide these things are in recess for the time being (is what I'm being told).

Deep breaths, my friends. We'll get you through this. :redpinkhe

hey people,

if you have any questions about the undergrad program email ---- . He's a really cool and helpful guy. Regarding registering for classes, he told me that we will be able to pick our lab placements during orientation on the 23rd/24th. Our lectures, though, are at the same time for everyone which is consistent with the NURS courses on the class schedule.
