U.S.A. California

Anyone hear anything from the school/school of nursing yet? Anxiously waiting here..

Thanks! And yeah that would definately be a lot more convenient...I was suprised but also kind of annoyed when I got the email saying they wouldn't be making decisions until July. IMO they should make the decision a little sooner.

But hey if I get into CSUSM, have my spot!

Aw, thanks!

Aw, thanks!

Haha no problem! Im actually right in the middle (mira mesa)

I am debating whether to choose SD or SM... but I've heard first we need to be enrolled in University and we need to pay $400 by May 2nd for SD. $400 is deposit so if we choose not go to SD later like in June, we don't get our money back. And...if we don't pay the deposit by May 2nd, then we are rejected from the University which means no nursing program for us. I don't know what to do... urgg...

Oh nice! :D

Yep.. I hear ya. I was in the same boat as you, but I've decided to close my eyes and just pay the deposit. I was so sure that I wanted to go to SM if I got in. Now I'm having second thoughts.. Which one are you closer to?

Looking at the big picture, you could lose $400 or risk sitting out for a year...imo the $400 seems like the better way to go. I might be wrong but doesn't SM accept only 80 students per semester? I don't know your grades/point situation but thats less than half of SDSU.

Congratulations for everyone admitted!

Don't you guys think SDSU's enrollment of $400 a bit excessive? Everywhere else is pretty much at least $100-180 range.

Anyways, I have a couple of questions for you guys if you don't mind...

1) In the next few weeks, I will currently be overseas in a rural region and will not have access to a computer for the entire month. To my understanding, we are required to check on the nursing webpage for the upcoming dates for the mandatory two workshops, white coat ceremony, orientation, submit urinalysis/background screening etc.

Will these mandatory meetings and all take place really soon or during August (as suggested in the e-mail)? I know this sounds like a very ignorant question. But, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I attempted to call the SON office but nobody was available?

2) Is the program 3 years? From what I've heard, it's 6 semesters and if they don't include summer semester..

3) Do you guys know about the required international experience that nursing students have to undergo by going to another country and learning? Sounds pretty interesting.

1) They are not even going to update until mid summer... and I think everything isn't going to happen until August, but if you are worried I would talk to Johann Ling just to double check.

2) The program is 2 and a half years... so 5 semesters. I think they offer (or at least used to) the opportunity to take a semester during the summer... but don't quote me on that. Again, I would ask Johann Ling.

3) If you just got into nursing school you don't have to worry about it. It's only for those who recently declared themselves as Nursing majors... I don't recall the exact cut off date, but if you want to know more about that go to the college of public health and human services.

Does anyone have any idea how much it costs to start up? I heard buying books/uniform/other stuff at orientation can be pretty costly, anyone know a link or anything to the actual numbers?

Congratulations for everyone admitted!

actually, now that I think about it if you transferred from another university or a community college you might want to check to see if you have to study abroad. It is based off of when you declared your major... so I would go to the College of Health and Human Services and ask.

To those who were accepted into the fall program, are you going to be attending New student/transfer orientation AS WELL AS the school of nursing orientation?

If you're a transfer student it might be a good idea to attend the transfer student orientation so you get a feel for the campus... it will be a lot different from the nursing orientation (which is mandatory).
