Unless they have very specific uniforms you must have, then yes, that's outrageous. It's outrageous even if they have them custom made, but then you would be stuck with it. There are a ton of places online to buy scrubs if they are just plain old scrubs. Heck, my Walmart carries scrubs.
try
or do a google search for discount scrubs. You'll find a ton of reasonable places. I bought my shoes through http://www.sportsmansguide.com for $19.

Does this seem high to you?
UGH! I hope they don't make you wear those ugly frilly apron looking uniforms like I saw some MCC students in! LOL
If they're not school specific, I don't see why you couldn't buy them anywhere. I'd check with your advisor/nursing school just to be sure, though!
At my school they wanted a particular uniform. They want all of us to look exactly the same (I am not being sarcastic - they actually said that).
We had to buy them from a local company. They are the usual frumpy white top and elastic wasted white pants. The warm-up jacket is royal blue. As far as shoes - we are on our own with the following restrictions - they have to be white tennis shoe type shoes.
I guess the price wasn't TOO bad. I got 2 shirts, 2 pairs of pants and the warm-up for $96. I bought the shoes at http://www.allheart.com for $31.99. I have heard of some people having to spend a lot more, though. (at other schools)
I would check with the school and make sure that it is okay for you to buy uniforms from somewhere else. At my school, we have to buy our uniforms through a local store, and only this store, because our tops will have some sort of patch on the sleeve and also, our jacket warm-up thingies will have our names embroidered on them. At least this guy is giving us a discount of some sort, I think!

Our school has specific uniforms (They are really ugly and very 70s). They are a zip up top with puffy short sleeves and three buttons on each side in the front. The pants are elastic waist (that stretch out and fall down after just a few clinicals. Our shoes must be "nursing" shoes and not look like sneakers in any way, shape, or form. I can't wait to graduate so that I can give my uniform to another unsuspecting nursing student coming up behind me!

I'm already dreading the "all white" uniform idea... I can't manage to wear white even now without spilling something, dropping an ink pen into my lap, etc etc etc....

You can get a pocket protector to help keep the ink from pooling at the bottom of your pockets (it probally will at some point if you don't have one) I know it sounds nerdy - but it also has your scissors, pen light and other stuff - it also makes it more organized so you don't get frustrated fishing for what you want.
