Published

Hello California people,

I am starting this thread because the application for external candidates starts tomorrow, November 7th.

Has anyone applied as an internal candidate?

What areas are you interested in?

Any interviewees or hired new grads from past cycles?

I am looking forward to a lively discussion :yeah:

That is so good to hear! What units did you interview with?

Oncology, Cardiac, Med/Surg.

@ zebrastripRN

How do you know which unit you interviewed if the interviews were panel consisting for 3 people?

Oncology, Cardiac, Med/Surg.

I asked my panel how it would be determined what units we would be accepted into, and they informed me that while they worked/managed certain units, this panel interview was an overall interview for a position in the Scripps system. They informed me that this was the first time that they were hiring nurses into an overall new grad program versus department wise, and that decisions of what unit or which hospital we would end up at would be decided at a later date, once we were accepted into the program. They informed me that if I wanted further information regarding department placement to talk to the HR people, because they didn't really know how we were going to be assigned. They also told me that we would be oriented into one department for the first part, then after four months, we would be able to experience a different department if we wanted to, and after nine months, we could have the option to relocate to a different hospital within the system. I told them that this new system sounded great and that it seems to offer a lot of opportunities to experience different things/departments/hospitals. Hope everyone's interviews went well!! :clown:

I just meant those were the units that my interviewers were from. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you! damn this is going to be the longest 2 weeks ever. =/

one more questions.. do you know how many are they hiring?

Nope I don't know. But I have heard they are hiring more than normal.

This is what I heard about the program: first 3 months- in class getting to know the ropes, second 3 months- preceptorship with another nurse on unit (like senior preceptorship), third 3 months- you are on your own, last 3 months- you will be floated to other units and hospitals. After the program, you have to reapply again for a job with scripps when there's available and that would be considered your one year experience. Not a grantee job when done, but you will have the experience you need to go to any hospitals as RN II. Whatever works to get your foot in the door is what matters. GOOD LUCK to everyone! :nurse::)
