2 science/lab classes in one semester?

I am considering taking Chemistry and A&P II next semester (and possibly Sociology). A couple of people in my A&P I class told me they would never attempt 2 science classes with labs in one semester.

 Now I'm getting kind of worried! I don't work but do have 2 small kids. MY average class load is 4-5 classes a semester with a 3.9 GPA. I'd hate to blow my GPA because I'm overloaded.

Anyway, what's your opinion on 2 lab classes? Have you done this? How hard was it?

Thanks for your input!

Marci:)

In my first semester I took Biology with lab 4 credit hours

A & P I with lab 4

Sociology 3

Psychology 3

How did you do with A&P I? Not trying to sound mean here, but always remember to look at the study & personal habits of those that tell you something will be too hard. Good luck

Well....about a million and one people told me that exact same thing and I didn't listen to them. I am glad I didn't too! I am in my second semester of A&P and I am also taking Microbiology and as you can see by my board name, I have FIVE children. It can be done. You just have to be committed. I love my classes and I look forward to going to them. Something I've always told my kids (the oldest is 12) is that whatever you do, it's all in your attitude.

Have a great attitude going in, study hard and you'll be fine.

Like the mom of 5 above (wow you are my hero, lady :) ) I took A&P w/lab and Micro (w/lab!) at the same time...it was rough, but I did it, and my family didn't suffer.:p I found that because I enjoyed both classes it made it easier. :)

Good luck. :)

Marci,

I did Chem, A&PII, Algebra, Sociology all together. I wouldn't recommend it but it is doable. Chemistry actually wasn't that difficult for me, A&PII can be challenging.

As far as the chemistry lab there wasn't any homework persay, just going to the lab and doing the experiments with a partner.

Good Luck

Hi Marci,

I'm taking A & P 1 w/lab and Chem 101 w/lab this semester..and I will never do that again...I don't know what I was thinking. I am a wife and mother to 3 children. I have to admit that this semester was rough.....:o ....I think it does depend on the person, if you feel that you can handle that load...then do it...if not don't....For me I was fascinated by A & P moreso than Chem....so I'm averaging an A in A & P...and I'm struggling to get a C in Chem....so I guess it takes a lot of balancing. Just think long and hard before you decide.

Actually, I'm doing pretty good in A&P. So far I am getting 85-95% on all of my tests. And you're right, the people who have been saying this aren't doing as well as I am. Thanks for the input.:)

Hi Fatima, I also am married with 3 kids so I can understand! That's part of what concerns me. I know I can do it, but how many hours will I have to dedicate to getting a decent grade? Thanks for your honesty- I will think hard about it before I decide.

Marci:)

i took a+ p and biochem in one semester along with nutrition and psychology...it was hard...but i dont regret it and this semester i am doing the same thing.....sandra is right.....look at those who are saying dont do it....i doubt that they have the same drive and dedication as you do.....up to know ...when people ask me what i am taking and i tell them they say i am crazy for doing it and so on....i just smile ...because i know that my grades are better...it depends on the person......

YOULL BE FINE

GOOD LUCK

I actually took 3 classes with labs when I went back to school, after being out for 19 years. I took Anatomy, Cell biology and Chemistry. I did work but I do not have kids! One of my classmates, who has kids, was in my chem and anatomy classes and took algebra at the same time. She does have 2 kids and works too. We both have 4.0's (we were trying to get into P.A. school and had to get A's to be competitive.)

I was able to do it, but I spent a lot of time in the lab. Some weeks I put in 9-12 hours in the lab between the 3 classes. It can be done, but consider the time that you give up with your family. Also, are you talking about summer or Fall semester?

Good luck with your decision! :)

People always have advice for you about how you should proceed with classes, but I generally just have followed my own instincts. I have three young children at home (17 mos, 3yrs, and 5yrs). I took A&PI and chem II in the same semester (both with labs) and really didn't find it to be a problem at all. Chemistry bored me to tears, but I loved A&P. . . got As in both and didn't really have trouble with finding the time to study. You can do it!

I think alot has to do with interest and drive. I have a girl 6 and a boy 2. I am taking micro and a&p this semester, pulling A's in both. time mgmt is a biggie too!
