  1. we use the flex pen. i like them. i have seen others drawing up from the pen (claiming that it is inaccurate and they do not trust them) i can tell if someone has drawn up from the pen because we are to prime the needle using 2 units. we can repeat the priming up to 5 times. i think when insulin is drawn out it screws up the plunger in the pen and you can sometimes see small air bubbles in the cartridge.
  2. same experience....i approached cna. explained that if looking at the chart it would appear that she told me of an abnormal vs and i did nothing about it. also included that it was falsification of legal document (lying). i was nice about it but included that if it happened again if would be forced to write it up. no problems since then. good luck!
  3. our nurse manager picks a day and posts "Last day to turn in schedule reqests is (date)". we turn in what days we need off for the next month, she marks those days off and works your 3 days around that. some of us have other requests...mine is to have every thursday off. if i ask for a request other than that for the week i understand that i may not get the thursday off that week. rarely have i not gotten the days off that i requested and when it was not possible i just did a trade w/ someone and got it off anyway. it helps when your having a bad day. i just think "i like everyone i work with, i like what i do and my boss really works w/ us on the schedule." i have been there almost 3 years and don't plan on leaving for all those reasons. i have 3 kids and am able to work my schedule around my familly life.
  4. yes i still like it here. hubby had a job at the hard rock casino that never opened....but they paid him thru november and he got a job at the ip. i started working at ocean springs hospital on sept 12th and love it there. i work with really good nurses, i can't brag on them enough. i ve only been nursing 18 months and they are helpful and like mentors. house did fine. minor roof damage minor siding damage and privacy fence down...no flooding thank god. do you still live in the area or were you travel nursing here? kellye
  5. one time I was doing a dressing change on an elderly gentlemen and in the middle of the procedure he said "thank you for taking care of me". I 've had people thank me during the day or on their discharge but was somehow more touched by this moment. felt good all day long.

hi ya'll, i finally made it down here in ocean springs. last year i posted to ex navy girl and miss priss letting ya'll know i was coming down due to hubby's work (hard rock casino) thanks for all of ya'lls info. just got hired at ocean springs and have my physical on tuesday. i will be part time status so pay is better, drawback is being sure to plan for retirement! i have been here 10 days and love the area so far, lots to see and do. maybe we'll meet one day. i think misspriss works at ocean springs, she highly recommended them as an employer. i interviewed in june at garden park and was offered $19/hr.pay is not too bad
  7. I've posted before about moving to biloxi and have had some replies. I guess i screwed up sending PM's or maybe the people i have PM'd have been busy....anyway i have a position at garden park hospital on a med-telemetry floor 7a-7p, beginning in august. new house will close the end of july in north biloxi. I guess i am still looking for input about the area. is this garden park a good hospital (looks nice, only 5 years old) what areas of biloxi would be good ones to tour or do things (ship island etc...) what areas should i avoid. what do you love/dislike about the area. also is there PRN work available at other hospitals? thanks kellye
  8. Our floor has team nursing consisting of an RN, LPN and MA. pt load is usually 11 pts per team, LPN takes 6, RN 5 and the MA all 11. The RN takes report on all 11 and is responsible for them (the LPN reports to the RN) she also does any of the procedures for the LPN (pushes, central line stuff etc..) it works out really well and has been on this floor for quite a while. i am a baby nurse, just passed boards 10/04 and am in orientation. it is overwhelming right now, so much to do and chart and there is so much that i haven't done or learned in nursing school! i know it will be awhile (at least a year i am told before i am comfortable) so how do i know when i am ready to be on my own? the usual time frame is 8-12 weeks. when i have four or more pts it feels like i am treading water to keep from getting too far behind!! help!
  9. I got pregnant in my ob rotation, ain't that funny. this is definitely our oops baby! my instructor said "was this a planned event?" i said "noooo" she asked "were we careless with contraception?" i replied "absolutely" after the shock wore off, we are really happy about this pregnancy (our 3rd) i have a girl 8 and a boy 4. i do remember though during the first part of my rotation before i found out i was pregnant my teacher saying "pregnancy is the most dangerous thing that you can put your body through" my first two deliveries were just fine, i gotta think positive! take care :chuckle

  11. i'm with you burger!! i am due 12/14, just graduated school 8/20 and passed boards (yea!) but am sure i will be paranoid at L&D time! precipitous birth has been on my mind lately, though!!!
  12. timing has changed from may to june to lattter part of aug....just unclear right now...hubby has opportunity at one of the casinos....hopefully it won't be until january, my due date is december 15th!!
  13. thanks to all who replied...i will know more as time goes by...my instructors have been helpful as well. kellye
  14. thanks to all who replied....i'm not as scared of the "possible" complications, both of my other pregnancies were trouble free at 32 yo and 36 yo, although my eight yo daughter wants me to have twins, yikes!! i was stunned at being pregnant at first (i thought we were done) but now i like the idea. the whole time during ob class i thought "i don't remember that part with the 1st one" or "if i had known that with my pregnancies i might have done it a little different" or even "i wish i could be pregnant just one more time, i do love it" but the last thought was quickly replaced with "naw, you're 40, too old, bad timing, and besides, be grateful for the two healthy children that you have, and also you will be starting a new career" I guess God knew better and about the longing to experience pregnancy "just one more time" I am very content and appreciate all the supportive replies to this "elderly multipara"!!! kellye
  15. I suspected that i was pregnant....got the OTC test...positive...hmmm...time to flip out (just a little!) this is my OB rotation, too. so we just completed the lecture on "complications and horrors of pregnancy & childbirth" and now I'm petrified (I have an 8 yo and 3 yo, didn't know enough to be scared) also didn't see many moms my age during my clinicals. I am calling my OB office tomorrow, "I'd like a mid-wife, please". have any of ya'll had children at this age? did everything go o.k.? am i being paranoid about the whole maternal age thing? i feel like i am going to get all the complications!! also, anyone experience pregnancy during nursing school? i graduate in Aug 2004, i will be approximately 5 months along by then. thanks, kellye :uhoh21:
