School's Accrediation

Is it ok for me to ask the advisors at the community college I attend if there LPN program is accredited with the NLNAC OR CCNC?

Im only asking because once again none of the employees at this college seem to know or wonder why I want to know and my family thinks it is important to know.

Oh and it's important that your school is accredited, b/c if it isn't then when you graduate you won't get your liscense to practice. If I'm wrong someone else will say so, but that is the way I understand it.

Sorry I keep posting here, but I just thought of something else. Another question you might want to ask the school or see if you can find online is what is their NCLEX pass rate. That will tell you how well they prepare their nursing students for the test.

I checked the site but my school isnt on the list, what does this mean?

My school's website says that after graduating I will be able to sit for the NCLEX-PN for licensure.

And also Ive emailed my advisor about this and she wont return a response,why do u think.

I hate being so suspicious but this school's administration asks suspicious to me.

You basically won't be able to continue your education. The other school's won't recognize your degree.

Let me clear some things up here. The only body that can say whether a graduate from a school can sit for the NCLEX is your states BON. You need to check your states website and see if your school is listed as one of the approved schools/colleges to sit for the NCLEX.

The next thing to clear up is that a school that isnt NLN or CCNC accredited that you wont be able to continue your education. This is NOT always the case and as long as your school is accredited through a higher learning education agency your credits will transfer to a higher institution. The only thing is that some of the online schools may not accept your credits but if wish to go on to get your ADN or BSN at another institution in your state you should have no problem. However, I would call some of your local colleges and ask them if your credits for ABC LPN school would transfer in.

There are several CC's in my area that are NOT accredited through the NLN or CCNC and all the universities here accept their credits for transfer. NLN and CCNC accreditation is voluntary and not mandatory. Some schools chose not to gain accreditation through them for political reasons, but that is another story altogether.

All I am saying is base your decision on these things: Can you transfer or continue your education with a degree from ABC LPN school. Find this out by calling some of your local universities and ask them if your credits will transfer to them. Call your states BON or check out their website and see if your school is on the list of approved schools for graduates to sit for the NCLEX.

If you couldnt sit for the NCLEX graduating from a school that isnt accredited by the NLN or CCNC then why on this world would your state or federal government allow them to teach nursing and mislead people into thinking that they can get licensed. Bottomline is if you couldnt get your license graduating from this school THEY wouldnt be able to offer the program!

Yes, you have every right with asking or finding out if they are accredited. Your family has a valid concern.

I don't know if anyone here can help me out with this, but what is the difference between CCNE and NLNAC accreditation? Is one better than the other?
