O.P same here and I feel the same way. we have our CNA check offs, and medical abbreviation test the first day, and a med math test the second week. if we don't get 100% by the start of the third week we are out of the program. so yes they put allot of pressure on from the start. I am told these two years will fly by. we shall see. good luck
I started last week and we had vital signs check off the second day and we have the BIG med test next week and then off to clinical the first week of September. The hard thing about it is having so much to do in such a short time. You will definitely need to have your whole week planned out on a calender.
We start on Tuesday and I'm a bit antsy about it as well I'm eager to get the ball rolling so that I can extinguish those racing "what if" scenarios that keep playing out in my mind. Too much idle time is bad for me so I'm looking forward to being so busy with school work that there's simply no time to be a worry wart.
Content wise, first semester is really not bad. They will try to get you acclimated to the program and intimidate you/ scare the beejesus out of you. Don't take it personal, that is normal. We all went through that. The instructor might make you feel terrible for not making the patient's bed properly and you might feel like a failure and ready to give up. Some people cry. Don't!!! You will not be the first or last student to mess up on an "easy" skill. We've all been there. Practice, then come back the following week and do it right. Don't dwell on your mistakes and don't put yourself down!
Be a good sport, get to know your classmates well because you guys will be in the same boat for the next couple years. Nursing school is a tough journey but so worth it!
Hang in there and good luck to everybody!! :)

I've been really anxious today about school starting tomorrow. This is my first semester in nursing school and I think I'm psyching myself out. I keep telling myself that I can do it, but I still can't shake this anxious feeling. I think it is fear of the unknown, not being sure what is going to happen. I've been told so many times that nursing school is nothing like the pre-req's I had to take and I can't decide if I'm excited about that or if that makes it even more scarier! I hope I feel better after this week is over and the routine gets more normal. I just needed to get this out! I'm excited and scared all in one!!!
