Has anybody heard about a nursing school mandating the students to have insurance??? Mine does - and if I can't find it cheap (yeah right!!!) I'm not going to be able to go. I get so tired of so many problems just trying to get into school!!!!!
Does anybody know of a cheap insurance company??? Geez...I probably won't even use it, this really sucks!!!!! :angryfire
I would not advise going and getting an individual policy through Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I was 20 when I went and got quoted as a non-smoker; $175 per month with no pregnancy coverage or $290 if I wanted pregnancy coverage! Per month, mind you. I laughed my way all the way out of that office. Sorry I can't point you in the right direction, but many other posters have. Good luck.

Does your school require proof of insurance? My school requires insurance as well, but they don't really go out of their way to enforce the policy. I think they just look the other way and just keep the policy as a CYA measure. I know of at least ten people in my class with no insurance. Another option would be to sign up for insurance and cancel once you're in school. Somehow, things usually wind up working out. Just don't lose sight of your goal.
I'm very surprised that your school doesn't offer health insurance to the students....especially if your attending full-time. My only problem is getting my money back from my CC. If you register for 12 or more credits they include an insurance fee in your bill. So now I have to get documentation from my insurance company to prove that I'm insured.....for whatever reason my insurance card isn't enough proof... . My malpractice insurance is also included in my tuition as a lab fee...I'm covered for $1/$3 million.

My school doesn't offer health insurance. Liability is purchased through the school. A neighboring university is a teaching hospital, so students there have to purchase the school's insurance that is only good at the student staffed clinic. Guess we gotta give the student's some practice dummies.
Thanks for the info. Fortis isn't bad - $85 for 90 days!!! There is still hope for me!!! :)
That is cheap as heck! My family pays $150.00 per week for Blue Cross.....(which sucks)
My school also recommends that we have malpractice insurance (luckily that is only $20 per year) I highly recommend it in this "sue happy" world!
Good luck!

Can you find a part time job that offeres insurance? That's one big reason why I hold onto my part time work. Also, be carefule with policies that have low coverage and high deductible. At my school in order to waive paying for insurance the school wants to see the coverage and deductible so they know were not just gettin ga piece of paper but actual coverage.
Unfortunately my school doesn't provide insurance! I guess they used to, because the forms I have state that they do, however when I called admissions they said the school doesn't. I do work at a part time job & they only offer insurance to full time employees. The insurance I found is cheap ($85 for 90 days) however it's no good as insurance. But if that's what I need to get into school - so be it.
I really appreciate all your wonderful advise. I think I'll call the school and see what you need to prove that you have insurance. I'd be screwed if they wouldn't take the cheapy insurance.
i was in quite a bind myself with the health insurance....
i was going to do what other poor people like myself do...go into the department of social services office and get some kind of state funded insurance until the insurance from my new job kicked in. (COBRA is like a million dollars a month)
there was a waiting period i think...in the meantime my mom offered to pay for the school insurance instead, so i graciously accepted.
try looking online for what your state offers! it would be FREE! :balloons:
free's the best price!
good luck!
Hmmm. My school does not require Health Insurance, but it does require malpractice Liability Insurance. Are you sure it is health insurance you need?

Yes - It's definately health insurance. I'm not sure about liability because I'm not going to be in the nursing program this year (hopefully next year)!!!

Ok, this might seem silly, but have you checked with your college yet? I know mine offers the hospital Liability Insurance AND health insurance with the nursing programs. We are able to purchase these things when we go and complete the registration process. If you are recieving any kind of financial aide, this would be a plus...you wouldn't have to pay for it. Disregard this if you have already checked:)
oh, also...Blue Cross Blue Shiled is an insurance I have always liked. It was affordable for me, but that's when I was employed, and thats the company here in Texas...I heard they are different everywhere.
