I am just curious to know if anyone has done the 2nd degree program at Tech. I am looking at several different options and this is one of them. I'm almost done with the prereqs and was trying to find anyone who has completed the program. I talked to a person connected with the program and was told that the program is held in three different locations. I guess that means that clinicals are in those areas. The whole other portion of the program is done online. The SON website for Tech gives better info. If anyone knows someone that completed this program, please let me know. Thanks.
Hi rnav and nacha. I've completed the 2nd Degree Program at Tech. There are good and not-so-good points to every program, of course. If either of you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me through email as I'm not sure how often I'll be checking this site :)
Texas Tech is a reputable university, with an outstanding healthcare program. They were doing online Nursing degrees before any other university in Texas started to think of it.
They specialize in online education. Their online program starts from KG ends in a Bachelor's degree. One caveat is, their exams are very difficult to pass. My son tried to do high school English with them and failed twice. Then he passed it with flying colors at his school.
Texas Womans Univeristy: http://www.twu.edu
and University of Texas Medical Branch (at Galveston) http://www.utmb.edu
also have online BS and MS programs.
another online Accelerated BSN program is in San Diego offered by the University of Oklahoma, http://www.ounursing.com.

Millipede,
Can you tell me the good points and bad points about this program? I am in the Austin area and am thinking of applying on Sept 1 for the Spring Class. I finished my CNA, took Med Terminology, and I have everything else. I just need Pathophysiology in the Fall which I found as on line class and I will be set.
Can you tell me what your schedule is like, how good the training is, how do you finance this program if financial aid doesn't cover a 2nd degree, how many people are in the program in your area, what do you think of the instructors. What points about this program do you recommend? What do you wish you knew before you started and what advice would you give to incoming applicants?
Thanks
Millipede,
Can you tell me the good points and bad points about the Texas Tech 2nd Degree Program? I have completed everything but the Pathophysiology.
What is the time commitment? Is there any flexibility?
Is this doable for a Mom with three elementary school aged children? What do you wish you would have known getting into this?
What is the reputation the graduates of this program have with local area employers?
How many hours a week is the time commitment?
What do you think of the instructors? Is this program insane or are you able to have a life and take care of your family commitments too?
How do people finance this if financial aid won't kick in anything but loans for a second degree?
What advantages are there to having this degree vs and ADN at a local community college?
Thanks.
RNAV32, I found out another school that does an online Accelerated BSN program you can check it out. I just found that today online when i was searching for schools to go.
Sorry to post under the Texas Tech Program, but wanted to reply to the earlier post quoted above. I just did a quick review of the Wisconsin-Oshkosh College of Nursing website, as it would be nice to enroll online and do clinicals close to home, and found out that several states have denied approval to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for students to do clinical rotations in their home states.
For those of us in Texas, this does not appear to be an option. Best of luck to everyone.
List pasted below:

I live in Abilene where this school is... It is a great program... BUT it's not for people who are currently nurses! It is for those who have a Bach. degree in ANYTHING--they can go to this school and receive their BSN in one year. I work at the hospital where the rounds are done.
