Has anyone ever heard of this online school for an acclerated BSN program? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I heard that New York won't accept Chamberlain for initial licensure because they won't allow you to have clinical there but they will give you a license after you get one from another State. I'm not from New York and I heard that from another person so you should double check.

ok great! thanks for the info i will check on it.

I am just curious to know if anyone has done the 2nd degree program at Tech. I am looking at several different options and this is one of them. I'm almost done with the prereqs and was trying to find anyone who has completed the program. I talked to a person connected with the program and was told that the program is held in three different locations. I guess that means that clinicals are in those areas. The whole other portion of the program is done online. The SON website for Tech gives better info. If anyone knows someone that completed this program, please let me know. Thanks.

HI all. I actually work at UMC, one of the hospitals that the Tech students do their clinicals at. I am will also be enrolled in their RN-BSN online class as soon as I finish with EC. They have several programs, but you do have to live in this area for them. They have the 2nd degree BSN which lasts one year, they have the rn-bsn, which also last a year, and they have the generic which last 2 years. It is a great school, and I am proud to say UMC is a WONDERFUL HOSPITAL. good luck in all you do!

Thanks for responding texas_lvn. Do you know how to get the CNA certificate or qualification. The reason I ask is because it is required for the 2nd degree BSN. I tried to search the schools in the area that have classes for the CNA position and Texas Careers is the only one that comes up. Somehow I don't believe that they are the only place in the area that offers CNA classes. I am going to assume that CNA stands for certified nurses assistant. Am I correct? Any information would greatly be appreciated and good luck in your program.

you can actually get your CNA free through a local LTC facility. There are several in the area, you can call any of them and they will be able to help you out better. You might have to work for the facility for a short while, but free is free!

Yes, CNA does stand for certified nurses assistant. Good luck, and if you move here give me a shout, I will be happy to help more. I love this area, my job, and Texas Tech!

Am also trying to apply for the school for next year spring but am not done with the pre-req yet. please if you know anyone that has completed the Second degree program, let me know.

Nacha, I have been searching these forums and asking the nurses that I encounter if they know anyone who has completed the Accelerated BSN and so far I haven't met or talked to anyone that knows anyone who has completed the program. It looks like I'm going to call up to the SON and ask for some contact numbers on the individuals who completed the program. The contact person for the program has been extremely helpful with all of my questions. Hopefully I can talk to someone who has gone through the program.

rnav32, that will be a good idea too. Hopefully you get to contact someone who had completed the program already. If you do, please give me a feedback. Thanks.

Nacha, was just curious if you have completed your CNA certification. Also, I checked the SON website and it has been changed and updated from a few weeks ago. I see that a medical terminology course is now a prereq. One other thing, are you going to take a chemistry class? Was just curious how others interested in the program are approaching the preparation.

Rnav32, i already have the CNA certificate long time ago but i dont think chemistry is included in the pre-req which i already have. I have to take the pathophysiology, Anatomy11, growth and development...... i think i still have a long way to go with that. I was thinking about applying for spring but is not going to be possible becos i dont have all my stuff ready yet. I looked at the site again but i didnt see Medical terminology as required. The deadline is Nov 1, i cant beat it.

Rnav32, Are you a registered Nurse?

nacha, sorry to here you not able to meet the deadline for the start date. i was looking at everything, and it looks like i will be done with prereqs next fall (2008). the only thing that i will have left to take during that fall semester is pathophysiology. i have debated weather or not to take chemistry. i still haven't made up my mind as to what i'm going to do with that class. i know it isn't required, but i just can't help think that it might be beneficial later on. also, above the prereq requirements, it does list that a medical terminology course should be completed. another thing i have to do is to get the cna certificate as well. also, to answer your question, i'm not a nurse of any type.
