Every week the National Association of School Nurses runs a quick poll regarding some aspect of school nursing.

This week NASN's Quick Poll is on home visits:

Home visits were a part of all of my school nurse roles and I am always surprised when other school nurses mention they are not expected to conduct them. The kids whose homes I visited were kids with IEPs, initial evals, 504s, etc. I usually went on the initial visit with another staff member, but subsequent visits, if needed, I would go alone. The exception would be if the home or the neighborhood was risky. When no one else could get free to come with me, sometimes the principal or the Director of Special Ed would accompany me.

How many of you are doing home visits?

I am not expected to do any home visits, because the Supervisor of the Health Services Department for my school district does them all.

I have not been told that I have to do home visits but I am aware that I can do them if I see a need.

I am not expected to do home visits. I suppose I would be able to after work hours, but I am not allowed to leave my building during the day.

I am not expected to do home visits because I am only paid for 182 days7.5 hours a day. I cannot leave my schools that are close together, and they do not want me to have ANY overtime. I do have a supervisor RN and i guess that if home visits were needed she would be yhe one who did those.
