Does anyone know what education is needed to become a school nurse in upstate New York? I have been a nurse for 6 years with an associates degree and been working in a hospital setting (med surg/tele then stroke/tele). I was full time for 4 years and then went to occasional status when my husband switched jobs and we had 2 kids that we didn't want in day care. I would lovvvvve to get into school nursing in a couple years. I have heard many school nurses that just have their associates but didn't know what was happening with those that are newly hired. Associates or bachelors? Does it depend on the school? I'm just nervous that I would have to get
my bachelors 😕

Long Island is ASN/RN. There is no cost differential for BSN as far as I know.
I'm assuming it is the same throughout NY.
Pay is low here where I am.

Far would know!
Though it may vary by district. I am in IL and some schools require a BSN or do offer a differential. Check the contracts on the district websites that you are looking into

My district in NY requires a BSN minimum but state law does not.

Just have to be a licensed RN. Pay is low though no matter what the degree. Jobs are tough to find

Yes, they can keep the pay low because these jobs are so in demand. (Great job if you are a parent.)
No BSN required in my district. The pay scale is the same with or without it.
