MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) on Wednesday declared its opposition to the proposal of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) to "ladderize" the nursing curriculum to institutionalize the practical nursing course Wednesday.

At the same time, the PNA called on schools offering practical nursing to be "honest" and not "mislead" prospective students into believing there is a high demand for practical nurses abroad when there is none.

I realized that there is a problem with the Commission on Higher Education (ChEd). First, they cannot close down low performing nursing schools and now they plan to ladderize the LPN program. Are they stupid? The LPN program should be abolish. They are misleading LPNs in their career.

To NorDon ,

Please check with New Jersey , South Virginia , and New Mexico , i have LPN friends who took their NCLex -PN in US.They got approval to take the exam in those states i mentioned. They graduated LPN here in Philippines .

RN Programs are the way to follow. LPN's are being phased out globally. The pay is much better for a Registered Nurse and is worth the extra training. You will not be sorry. Been there, Done that, Trust me, You will thank me.

Why? when PN doesn't meet US immigration requirements and PN (EN) hasn't been trained in the UK for several years and the NMC will not accept anyone with less than 3 years of training and must be RN therefore they can't be working as a nurse in the UK

They aren't. LPN is a gateway to the Level 3 Caregiving course. They go in as student Caregivers on the back of the LPN education.

In New Zealand they go into a Nurse Assistant program which is (I think) currently one year.

So you are right. They aren't working as nurses; however the LPN does generate a gateway for them.

That being said.. it is the same gateway generated for Midwives and Caregiving course graduates.... so it would be up to the individual as to which path is better.

Personally I want to see nurses work as nurses.

is it true that st augustine school of pn is really tied up to harvard? this is what the commercial claims

hmmm... Sounds like CANADA... BSN graduates and RNs from the Philippines are not recognized here in CANADA, especially TORONTO, ONTARIO.

I just wanted to inform people from the Philippines to never pursue nursing career here in ONTARIO, CANADA.

Most provinces here in CANADA prefers a BScN gradute RN. Wanna know what a BScn means????

It is BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING.... same as BSN.

CANADA wanted to have their own initials...

If you have a BSN degree and already an RN, PLEASE.... Don't pursue your career here in CANADA or you will end up working at McDonald's or StarBucks!!!:down::down:

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Each province will have their own requirements, I have seen many Philippine nurses in Nova Scotia have no issues with their training being accepted

The terms BScN and BSN are both used in Canada.

Canadian health authorities have been disappointed with the quality of degree holding nurses educated in the Phillipines. Each and every applicant from the Phillipines have had to be assessed on a case by case basis due to the lack of consistency of the university programmes in your country. It has cost the provincial colleges of nursing a huge amount of money to do these assessments. Working nurses have had their yearly registration fees increased to assist in paying for this (my registration has increased by 25% since 2008 and the overseas hiring blitz). Local colleges have had to establish SEC courses to test overseas nurses. These are in part subsidized by the Canadian taxpayer.

I know of one nurse (who was initially trained as a physician in the Phillipines) that is working as an LPN because he simply cannot pass the CRNE.

If you are so disillusioned by Canada, why don't you just leave the country? The Canadian taxpayer is entitled to have safe, qualified nurses treat them and their families.

Could we have evidence to support this statement?

LPNs certainly are NOT being phased out in Canada. Due to fiscal constraints they are being utilized across the healthcare spectrum. The PN education is now based on the old RN diploma course.
