Saunders NCLEX Book Question

Published

Hello fellow nursing students, I'm currently looking for an excellent book that helps build critical thinking skills in regards to how professors test on exams. I been browsing this site and I stumbled across the Saunders NCLEX book. My question is that would this book have practice questions about nursing fundamentals in regards to ADPIE, sleep, wound care, etc. Is it neatly broken down into those topics? Are there practice questions for each of the topics I mentioned? Thank you!

I love, love Saunder's Comprehensive review for the information. As far as practice questions, after seeing and using many other review books I feel it is lacking. Only about 10-15 questions per chapter and in my opinion are more knowledge based than they are "critical thinking". I recommend Prentice Hall Comprehensive Nclex review. It has similar maybe even more information than Saunder's and the questions are better. Prentice Hall also makes a Nursing Fundamentals and Health Assessment book which would be very helpful to a first semester nursing student.

I think you really need to wait and see what works for you and your school. I used the Prentice Hall ones and didn't like them because I didn't feel they went in depth enough and just didn't match up to my classes but I liked the Davis's series the best for my school. I started using it in Pharm and then Med-Surg II and I have the NCLEX-RN as well. I think it's hard to know before hand what will work for you personally since everyones school is different and everyone learns different.

Did you buy a used copy that didn't come with the CD? The Saunder's Comprehensive review book comes with CD that has thousands of questions on it. I have used to help me in all my nursing classes to far, and it has helped me so much. It is broken down but it isn't that neatly done. From what I recall it does have a nursing fundamentals section. If I wasn't at work right I would check. I will post back here when I can.

I like the Fundamentals Success and Test Success books for Fundamentals. I mostly used the Test Success and got an A in the course.

nope, i bought a brand new copy from amazon. i did use the cd and as i stated i did not like the questions. i thought they were more knowledge based (straight forward questions with straight forward answers) compared to other review books out there. it is awesome that you use and love the questions. when choosing a review book it is all about personal preference, learning style, and how your lecture is taught. we all learn and study differently. i once again think saunder's is great for the information but prefer davis success series (their nclex review is awesome too!), lippincotts q&a, and prentice hall for practice questions.

oh ok. i was just mainly asking about the cd thing cause it is a lot more than 10-15 questions per chapter.

op: you might find that for each class your professor tests differently, i have found that in some classes it is all about their notes and in others it is all about the book. i wish i could speak more on other review books but the saunders book does have section on how to read and answer the questions in the best way possible. some of my classmates have used the success books mentioned in post 4 and they were happy with them.

alot of textbooks will come with nclex style questions to practice with in the book with access to even more online, which are also really helpful.
