San Jacinto College ADN Fall 2009

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program?

Lets talk about it here

I handed in my paperwork today and cleared but the counselors office still hasn't switched me over. I called and the lady at the office said " I don't know what your talking about you have to personally come in to switch your major." They transferred me to Mrs.Jammer and she said that Eyvette is going to send the list over at the end of the day then they should switch it. This is so confusing. I did buy my fundamentals and health assessment books today. I think I'll order the rest eventually. I just want to register and get this over with. UGh

Just a matter of one hand not knowing what the other is doing. As for books, you'll need to get the APA book before Wednesday the 26th. It's required for our orientation of Fundamentals/Foundations/whatever they're calling the class.

Yeah I plan on buying the rest next week when I get paid again, just wanted to get a jump start on the other two so I can start reading. Thanks for the info though, I wouldn't have known since I'm not registered yet.

No problem. Figure since I'm always here, might as well help people out. We're all going to be buddies for the next couple of semesters anyway : D

Yea that is true. The three skills that you listed that we have to get checked off on will be really easy, I was a CNA before so thats all I did everyday at work. I've heard the first semester is mostly basic nursing skills which is the foundation for nursing.

Oh wow, you'll have a way heads up on all of us. The only one I did was the vital signs and that's laughably easy. For those that have their stethoscope, start practicing on siblings, parents, friends, anyone around who wouldn't freak out with some random stranger trying to get their BP and pulse.

Also, as a hint to those with no medical experience. When you're checking vitals (and you will all the time), make sure you get a note of skin color, and skin temperature. They'll probably drill this into our heads, but I think a little knowledge now will help everyone remember. And you'll need to remember when we get into assessment : )

Yeah I'm kinda glad I have medical experience because when I did my CNA class in high school I was so frustrated. I think whats really going to help me is being a pharmacy technician because from what I hear pharmacology is a beast. I'm always willing to help :)

You will probably be requested time and time again by people for that class. I'll try to resist the urge for as long as humanly possible, but I can't make any guarantees, haha.

Did they change their mind about what shoes we can wear at school with our blue uniforms? At the orientation they said it did not matter what color the shoes are just as long as they are clean and have a closed toe on them.

They did say we had to wear white, leather shoes to clinicals.

Seems like it. Black or white athletic shoes. Wish they would have said that to begin with.

I'm okay with being asked, I'll still have questions myself. I work with tons of drugs daily and still don't know what a lot of them are used for. It's impossible to memorize every drug so people who are going to try to do that are going to be very frustrated. I tried to find some white leather shoes for clinicals and I didn't see any that I liked. I guess when that time gets closer I won't have a option whether or not to be picky. yeah I heard also at orientation that the shoes we wear to school could be any as long as they were clean. I could be wrong though.

Didn't they say something about knowing around 2000 different drugs? Or at least, the concept that there are 2000 drugs in existence? I wouldn't even hope to try and memorize all of that.

"School uniforms will be required attire with black or white athletic/tennis shoes or nursing shoes,"

I pulled that from the foundations blackboard page. It seems pretty certain that you're either going to wear black or white shoes. Another absolute choice : /
