San Jacinto College ADN Fall 2009

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program?

Lets talk about it here

Hey is anyone taking their CPR on August 2nd? That was the soonest that I can take mine, I work at the hospital and they pay for us to do it but didn't have any classes soon enough so I had to shell out the $ 85.00. I've posted this info before that I am a pharmacy technician and I can relate to how it felt to think I had to memorize hundreds of drugs, but most of the drugs that are used frequently are in the same class and sound almost the same so its not that bad. I can say working with them definately helped out because trying to study all those drugs gets tiring. About the shortage of jobs, I work for memorial hermann and they are still hiring but do I see that it is not as much as before the recession. Nurses will always be in high demand so my advice is if you can afford to get a job even a day or two a month as a nurse extern at a hospital this will guarantee you a job when u graduate. I already have several departments saying that they will hire me once I have graduated. I just wanted to post this little bit of info so that no one gets their hopes up.

Oh definitely. It's not hard to get a job if you have your foot in the door. I'm volunteering at St. John's and I'm doing my best to let the people who make decisions know that I'll be looking for a job soon : D

Those prices for the CPR classes sound extremely high. I paid 20 dollars to go to UTMB to get my first one (I got my second through my EMT classes). Maybe that's just me, but it sounds really expensive compared to what I paid.

just dress casual to orientation. jeans and a tshirt will do. hehe. just not too trashy.

Flydayton- Yea, $85 is expensive. That's what I thought too. I remembered when I use to take First Aid/CPR and it was only like $40, but then I realized that there was a difference, because this one has to be for Healthcare Providers. Not sure if the class you took before was for providers?

I was reading the different posts about whether we register for our nursing courses and will it be after orientation when we receive our schedule, and I was going to say that I remembered when reading in the acceptance letter where it said as soon as you turned in all your paperwork (picture, copy of acceptance letter, CPR, and physical) that you would then be released for registration. I turned all my stuff in last Tuesday, and I am hoping that maybe I'll get my schedule soon. However, I don't know how they do it, and I didn't ask (but I should have). I'm just ready to see what to expect. It may be after orientation though, just to make sure that you actually show up. LOL

I'm not sure who was asking about taking Philosophy 1301, but I took it as my humanities and arts class. It was interesting. Deep thinking stuff in there. Hmmm, I wonder now since I took that, if it could be counted towards my philosophy requirement for bachelors later on. I wouldn't see why not, but ya never know. It would be cool if I "killed 2 birds with one stone".

I think it will be at the orientation when they'll give us our schedules. So I wouldn't worry about registering for anything.

My card was healthcare provider, so I feel bad for those of you seemingly overpaying for your CPR classes.

Oh man! Well you definitely lucked out. Hopefully others will be able to locate a cheaper class, but I guess with all of us under a deadline, we don't have a whole lot of options than to just bite the bullet and pay the $85.

My CPR class was pretty good. It was a lot more hands on than I remember my other ones being. Time actually flew by pretty quick, so I don't think it will be too torturous for you guys fixing to take it.

hTX87- Thanks for the tips about the clothing. I was just thinking about when you answered that question before and Flydayton said somthing about how he guessed this meant he couldn't wear his chaps with the back out or something like that. Ha, Ha! Would that classify as trashy? LOL! Also, weren't you the one that took your NCLEX already? If so, do you know yet if you passed?

no, im not the one that took the nclex. i wish i was that far ahead already! lol. im still in the program, halfway through.

So I made an A in the class. Guess he felt sorry for my terrible essays : p

Not sure if this is too late, but if you go to HoustonRedCross.org, you can find the CPR-For Professional Rescuers classes (the closest to medical professionals I could find) on there for only $57. They locations vary. The two closest to the Central campus are on Spencer Highway (inside Beltway 8) and one in Baytown. Just click on the calendar dates and it'll tell you where it's at. The class is 8 hrs long.

Hope this helps! :)

I think they need American Heart Association though. Don't quote me on that, but that's what their little paper said. I have no idea if they accept substitutes.

Specializes in Oncall Hospice RN.

You're info regarding the American Red Cross is correct. Did you receive your flash cards? Mine finally came in so it's back to the gym since I have something to keep my mind busy :coollook:

I haven't bought mine yet. I'm saving up the whole 40 dollars I need to get them. Let me know if you like yours and I might get the ones you have.

Also, this physical form is a joke. My doctor has done nothing but mock it since I've showed it to him (not that I haven't been either). I'll be glad when I don't have to look at the papers anymore and can just focus on passing classes.
