San Jacinto College ADN Fall 2009

Published

Hi everyone. Im wondering if any of you are planning on applying to San Jac ADN program or are in the program?

Lets talk about it here

I applied with option B had two A's and a B, I had all the classes done for the BSN so I don't know if that mattered. My last name starts with a J.

pharmluv...have you been accepted or heard anything yet?

Hi, I've been reading and enjoying all of your posts. I applied for Fall 09 and found out last night I was accepted. I have a BA in Political Science so I pretty much had to start all over again as I didn't have any of the pre-reqs. I started with San Jac last fall and been plugging away since. I'm taking Micro this summer session and Lifespan next. I was trying to get all my non-nursing classing finished before starting but I think I may have a PE left. Congratulations to everyone!! Anyone have any idea as to how many applications they recieved for Fall?

I think they probably received somewhere in the neighborhood of around 300-400 applications. Give or take 50 or so. Really puts into perspective how fortunate we all are to have been accepted.

I just found this thread today... and I have been in the same boat all of you have... I wish I would have found this thread earlier :( I was also accepted and I could not be happier :) But I do have a problem and I hope you all can help me...I applied for nursing school in Fall 2009 to the universities HBU and UTHS (BSN programs) and San Jacinto ( ADN program)... I was rejected for UTHS, but accepted for HBU and San Jac. You see San Jac was my plan B... but now I like it better lol It will take 3 years for me to get my BSN at HBU (not 2 years) and is SUPER expensive and farther (since it is a private University). And if I go to San Jac it will take me 2 years to be an RN and 1 extra year to get my BSN.... IT WILL TAKE THE SAME TIME!!!! lol (but it's a lot cheaper and closer)... I would love to know different perspectives... What would you do?

I too toyed with the idea of just going ahead and getting a BN. I have a BA and thought about applying for the accelerated program at UTMB but there were a lot more pre-reqs. It would take me an extra year to complete them at San Jac before applying. About the same amount of time in school but money also came into play. As you said, San Jac is so much cheaper. I've heard nothing but great things about the program - from all different types of health professionals that have observed San Jac students in clinicals and compared them to students from other area schools. Other things I've heard, and I may be misinformed, but an RN is an RN and the pay is not any different between an ADN and a BN. Where a BN comes into play is if you want to get into administration and that's not going to happen until you get some experience under your belt anyway. From what I can tell, there are a few area programs that allow you to work while getting your BN. Most of the classes are online.

Talk about a pickle. Well, in my humble opinion, I think you'd be better off going to San Jac. You already mentioned a big reason--the cost. It's pretty expensive as is without having to worry about tuition being double.

I'm sure others would agree that San Jac is probably your best choice : )

:ancong!: on your acceptances to HBU and San Jac. IMHO i would go with San Jac, I have the same plans to move on to get the BSN. As youve said cost is a big factor and you cant beat san jac.

I agree, I would also go with San Jac. I have my classes for the BSN but didn't want to wait to any longer for their programs. I plan on just doing the BSN online after finishing the adn. I work at memorial hermann and have talked to a lot of directors and they said they will hire a adn graduate over a bsn graduate any day because their clinical skills are better. I have heard that in the BN they focus a lot of administration and you don't get as much hands on as adn, besides the adn schools have a higher NCLEX passing rate too. Hope this helps! Congrats to everyone. Does anyone know if there is a certain dress code for the orientation in july?

Thank you all for your advice! I really appreciate it! I am now leaning more to San Jacinto... Hopefully I will see you all there :D lol Now my other problem is that I accepted HBU because the deadline was coming and I had heard nothing from San Jac... Do I just not do their requirements and they will scratch me off their list? I hope I don't have any problem lol

PharmLUV I have no idea if we have a certain dress code for July orientation :( Sorry I'm not much help...

I kinda figured there wasn't that great of a reason to get my BSN. Why pay for it when I can let the Air Force do that for me : D I also don't think there's going to be a dress code. I would e-mail them about it though if it's got ya worried.

You might be able to contact HBU and tell them that you changed your mind. I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time they've had to do something along those lines. Not attending any of the mandatory stuff would work as well, but, at least to me, seems less desirable. That's just me though.
