San Bernardino Valley College Spring 2019

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm creating this post to connect with other students who will be applying as applications will be opening on the 1st of August. Only 5 days! Sbvc is my second choice school I'm really hoping to be invited to take the Hesi & accepted. However, I'm pretty nervous due to the new point system. I have an associates degree which I could have used to get points before this new system was put in place. It seems as if this point system is meant to be more competitive. My counselor there did tell me that it just depends on the applicant pool. She said that one year most students that applied had the bare minimum gpa's & some with mostly C's in prerequisites got in. So I guess it really just depends. Here's to hoping we all get in!

Bump.

I might have posted in the wrong place.

Update.

I just turned in my application today.

Hoping for the best since they are implementing the new point system for the Spring of 2019.

Bump!

Its Mid August. The application period closes in 2 weeks. It's been awfully quiet this application term for Valley. If anyone wants to share stats or has applied feel free to comment.

Hi there!

i just applied a few days ago! I guess I waited until the last minute. I am a little bummed because I didn't know about the two courses you can take to get more points for the point system. I attended the nursing workshop and don't remember them mentioning it but then it showed up on the application. I'm talking about the pharmacy calculations and computer tech class I believe. Anyhow, I'm hopeful and excited to get in the program. We should find out soon enough! Are you planning to study for the hesi soon or are you waiting until the invite you to the hesi? Good luck!

Hello!

Yes same here! When I went to the nursing workshop they didn't even mention that they were going to be changing the point system. I wonder if it's going to make it more competitive? I'm extremely nervous! I actually took the Hesi at Mt. Sac so I'm just going to keep reviewing in hopes of getting invited to take it there since Valley doesn't accept outside Hesi scores. Is Valley your first choice?

Also good luck to you as well!!!

Valley is the only school I have applied to. I am an lvn so applied to both the bridge and the rn program. I am going to consider Azusa pacific if I don't get into valley. They have a Bridge program. I really should start studying for the hesi!! After they invite us to take the hesi, I wonder how soon we take it? Hey so how did you study for the hesi? Any books that were helpful? I think I saw one at Barnes and noble I might get it and use that just because I am not sure how else I should study. Yikes I'm nervous about the hesi!

Oh ok! I've heard Vally is a good program so fingers crossed for both of us. I'm really hoping I'll be invited to take the Hesi. If you don't mind me asking how many points are you applying with? I'm applying with a 3.6 science & 3.4 overall so I'm a little nervous. If I remember correctly I'm applying with anywhere from 37-45 points so I'm hoping that's enough.

Also the Hesi wasn't too bad at all! The only section that got me was Math I mixed up the conversions in my head & therefore Math was my lowest score. I recommend the book by the company Elsevier which are the makers of the Hesi exam. I got mine at Barnes & Noble. I would study for A&P more in depth though because I got questions on the different joint types which the book didn't even cover. I would start studying now honestly. I studied for 2 weeks & got an 83% on it at Mt. Sac so I would say give yourself time to really study.

I think Valley gives you 2 weeks notice.

Hello! I also applied to the spring program. I am also an LVN and applied for both the bridge and generic RN program. Valley is my first choice since I've done all of my prerequisite there. I had a 3.5 overall in sciences and 3.34 overall GPA. I haven't started studying for the HESI yet.

Hello welcome! Thank you for joining in on the conversation. Based of previous threads it seems as though Valley takes a while to send out Hesi invites correct? For the last spring term I think some people got their invites until October... I'm going to go nuts waiting lol

Valley is my second choice. I've taken all my prereqs & got an A.S at Chaffey so I'm really hoping to go there but I would Love to get accepted at Valley. Since you've taken all your classes there have you heard anything about the nursing program?

Yes l believe it's between 6-8 weeks before we know if we're invited to take the HESI. Then you have about 2 weeks to study but I would start studying now. My friend started the program last January and I do believe they receive letters in October, took the HESI and found out if they got in sometime in November. Yes the wait is a killer. If I don't get into Valley I may try Mt San Jacinto, College of the Desert or Azusa Pacific would be last. I don't know much about the nursing program at Valley but I know it is competitive. I just hope to get in. Did you apply to the bridge or generic program?
