Hello!
I am an ADN-RN Student in Michigan and my husband and plan on relocating down south when I graduate and pass my boards next summer (2010.) We have looked at Tennessee and Texas and are leaning towards the San Antonio area. I am curious about a few things and was hoping someone would give me some advice.
**I want to work in a hospital. Will I be limited or held back by my ADN, as opposed to a BSN? I plan to go on and eventually obtain my Masters, but for now I just want to work as an RN for awhile and pay off some debt and have babies! :)
**What is the job market like for Nurses in TX? Is it very competitive?
**What do RNs make (on Average) in San Antonio?
Any advice would be very helpful! Thank you! BTW....it is 7 degrees right now where I am....wonder why I want to move to TX?!!
I accepted a position at southeast baptist hospital through a third party and I am due to start on Feb. the 16th and I have no idea what is going on? They have not given the unit I was hired on to nor the name of my supervisor? I dont feel to comfortable anymore? I think I will call around and see who else is hiring as I have put in my notice to vacate with my current land lord and I have signed up with pearson vue to take my boards there in san antonio all without the knowledge of what unit I work on or anything? I will most definately take this as a learning experience.
Call Northest Baptist Hospital Human Resources -you can also apply to them online and they will call you pretty quickly I think -I have been in South FLA since August -I'm back in school, so I am not sure who is hiring, but winter is the busy season so I bet everyone may be hiring in some dept....The website will list positions open at each baptist hospital -sorry I can't give you any names in human resources, but you could just call them and go from there.
good Luck
If you knew the zip codes, I could tell you what is good. Also, what grades your kids go to school.
Downtown is generally not an area to die for, nor is southeast.
Most of Northwest, North and Northeast is good, outside of loop 410. Medical Center is good too. There are very reasonable spots around 78245. Just stay out of the Wurzbach corridor south of I-10, where the nightclubs are. In the east, there are some pricey spots such as Westover hills. Then there is the the area of Northwest Military HWY. All depends on your preferrance.

I live in phoenix arizona. I just graduated from an ADN program this Jan. I had a telephone interview with them and accepted the position, I have not however signed any paper work or done any drug testing etc.... I am having such a hard time getting information about relocation and benefits from the third party that sent the hospital my resume. But I have turned down other offers for this one and I am just not all that sure if it was the best decision at this point? I am sure how to pm as well? I have never done it before.
