Hey All
I haven't yet seen a forum for this cohort yet and I wanted to start one! Applications are due soon and wanted to see how others are going along with the process and see if theres any advice or recommendations that anyone has. This could be with the application, interviews, pre-reqs, HESI, etc. I appreciate those who comment and add to the forum!
A little about me: originally from NYC moved out to Oakland in 2015. I worked in Urgent Care, and have volunteer work during Covid-19. Finishing up a few pre-reqs now and hopefully will have them done in time for the application due date Dec 1st. Let me know if there are any other questions for me, I am very interested to see the backgrounds of others who are also applying, its a stressful but exciting time for everyone! ?
P.S. if there is a forum for the Fall 2021 ELMSN program please link it!
Hello everyone! I applied to the ELMSN program at Samuel Merritt and received the email saying that they've completed the preliminary verification. I'm a little worried though because I didn't do too well on the A&P section of HESI both times. I've gotten over a 90 on all other subjects but only got 76 on A&P. My science and cumulative GPA is over a 3.5 as well but I'm worried that because of my A&P score, I will automatically be rejected. Does anyone know of a student in the past who was still offered an interview in a similar situation?
This is so stressful! I wish you all best of luck <3

I feel you @ld93. Just remember that there are many aspects of your application, not just GPA and exam scores. Theres also your essay, and your letters or recommendation. A lot of schools will want well rounded students, and I know SMU really focuses on diversity and social justice. So if you have some work in the healthcare field or volunteer experience thats also a plus! Also on their website they list out the 2020 ELMSN 50% average class stats, which means that there are students that fall below that range as well as above that range.
personally, I re-read my essay over and over, and every time I do I lose trust in what I've written LOL, I also wish I had more confidence in my exam and GPA.
Ahh thank you so much! That honestly made me feel much better. I do have a lot of healthcare experience so I'm glad that will take a holistic approach to reviewing these applications. Just hoping for the best!
And yes, I felt the same way. I've made it a goal to not look at my application that I turned in until I absolutely need to LOL! But I wish you the best ?

I am applying to the FNP specialty. Any interview invites yet?
Hi,
I have not heard anything about interviews but I just received my preliminary email today. In case of the BSN program, they are trying to conclude all the preliminary emails by 2/15. Maybe the timeline for the FNP is similar?
...Also, I have looked at previous years' posts, and I found it really helpful that many posted their stats. I will post mine below as well. But then, I've read and heard that this is an especially competitive application year, and they have received more applications than usual.
TEAS: 89%
Science GPA (including Chem): 3.79
last 60 units GPA: ~3.87
Bilingual: Spanish/English
UC Berkeley grad, lots of teaching experience, currently completing CNA Course bc I could not find any place that allowed volunteers (COVID ? ).
Does anyone know what percentage of the ELMSN FNP track students accepted have health care experience? Although I've read a lot of these posts from previous years, I honestly have no idea what to expect for this application cycle.
Best of luck! ?
Hi! Has anyone heard of SM extending the application deadlines for the ELMSN FNP and/or Case Management programs? I noticed that some deadlines were extended in previous threads. Also, I'll go ahead and list my stats below as well:
Required Courses/Prerequisites GPA: 4.0
Science GPA: 4.0
Last 60 Units GPA: 3.4
TEAS: 92%
UC Davis grad + 2 years healthcare experience, though I feel that not being bilingual will kill my chances!
Good luck everyone!

Hey @Carda_S the email states that the school has completed its preliminary review and that we will receive updates as needed. It also states that if there are any AP credits that will be used to cover any prerequisites, they must be passed with a 3 and/or above and an official transcript must be sent if admitted. Lastly it mentions to check your spam/junk mail before calling, email is the preferred form of contact, and calling will slow the process down.
Last year these emails were sent well into February, so I don't think theres much to worry about, plus I think as a preliminary email, it them letting us know that we aren't missing any pre-reqs (or they are aware of pre-reqs currently in progress), and our applications have been verified by the NursingCas. It also seems like they send it in batches so, Im sure you aren't the only one waiting! Just hold tight!
I think we should start to worry after the preliminary email, if theres no invitation to an interview. Looking at last years forum, not receiving an invite to an interview was usually followed by a rejection email. EEEKK!!
