I wanted to start this discussion for all applicants of the ABSN Summer 2018 cohorts at Samuel Merritt University. Please feel free to share your thoughts so we can support each other!
So let's imagine a senerio were someone gets into both the ABSN and ELMSN-FNP program and their end goal is to eventually become a FNP. Which program would you choose? I have thought of going into the ABSN and getting my RN quicker then going back for the FNP program or would it be better to just get it all done in one program with the ELMSN-FNP? Does anyone have any other pro or cons...
Hi Ceeceanne,
That's a good question. FNP currently takes about 3 years to complete (maybe 3.5?) without nursing experience. I have also heard that many if not all schools will convert the FNP of Master's level to a Doctorate which will result in additional years schooling.
There is really no right or wrong by of going about it but you may want to factor in your financial situation as well as what sacrifices you are willing to make short and long term.
Good luck and keep us updated on your route of choice!
Hi everyone. I like some of you in this site applied to Samuel Merritt University for the Summer of 2018 cohort.
Oakland was my first choice. I am soooo nervous and anxious to hear from them. Did anyone receive any offer yet?

@OllieRugby I got a letter of recommendation from a nurse I work with. She's also teaches classes at SMU. I would recommend volunteering at a hospital or clinic.
