Hello everyone! As the title says, I am graduating from my Entry Level MSN-FNP program this year. Because this program does not require RN experience prior to admission, we have gone through the RN schooling during the program and took the NCLEX before moving onto the MSN-FNP portion. With my lack of floor RN work and my worries about finding a job as an NP after graduation, I am considering applying to an new grad RN residency or a new grad RN role to hone in on my RN skills before really moving into the NP role. I want to preface this with the fact that my school has given us the opportunity for BOTH RN and FNP clinicals throughout the program. As of right now, I am doing 3 8hour days of FNP clinicals. I think that this is an advantage in the specific program I am in as I hear of many other entry level MSN programs not offering this much clinical hours which can lead to the negative reputations of these programs. I have a few concerns that hopefully someone can help me with: If I apply to a new grad RN residency or even a job, I am at a disadvantage with my MSN FNP degree but most places require RN work before coming in as an NP. I've also heard on the other side that some NPs from a program like mine are great because they are not stuck with an RN mindset but I also hear that we're not great NPs because we have not had the experience as an RN. As time goes on, I sometimes feel inadequate by the nursing society standards but feel that I can excel in this career. I am conflicted with the different stigmas that come along with this program I am graduating from. If I work as an RN for a couple years before working as an NP, I may lose my NP skills. Has anyone experienced a loss of NP skills while working as an RN before going into the NP role? Any sort of advice is appreciated in advance. Thank you.

Hi All, I have been admitted to the SMU ELMSN-FNP 2019 Cohort as of Feb 11 and have been cryptic here. It was my second time applying after being waitlisted last year, and I requested to join the Facebook group today. Hoping to meet all of you soon and excited to know that we are going to become nurses!

I emailed SJ and asked. Was not given any information on my position within the waitlist. I am hoping it's high enough to get in!!!

EXTREMELY HELPFUL! Thank you for this wall of information! One thing I did hear from the current MEPN students and from my boss (MD) is that there are definitely some forgiveness type of programs where you can work in an FQHC/medically underserved area after graduation to pay off the loans you take out. I am pretty positive this is one route I will be taking as I have been working with medically underserved clinics and would love to continue doing so.

Hi all, I have been extremely cryptic on this forum but was present on last year's UCSF MEPN forum! Last year, I was denied an interview and reapplied this year. Had my interview on the 25th and I have been avoiding checking allnurses so that I could really focus on myself, my application, my work, and the interview! Now that that is over, I have been anxiously keeping myself busy and still checking my email every 5 minutes and wanting to go home to see if any mail came in. I am so anxious to hear back and I hope we all get to hear soon! One thing I did not take advantage of during the interview day was talking to the tuition folks... Did anyone find anything helpful???

Hi everyone! Just to update, I have received my acceptance to SMU as of 2/6/2018. I am hoping that one of you here on the waitlist receives an acceptance letter ASAP. I have unfortunately declined due to a different path I am currently taking (working for something I've dreamed for, for a long time!) before applying back to SMU and other nursing programs and schools.
