Samuel Merritt University ABSN Spring 2021

Published

Hello!

I didn't see a thread for the SMU absn Spring 2021 cohort so I just wanted to start one!

I'm currently in the process of applying right now and working on my personal statements!

Hope you are all staying safe during this crazy time!

One of the admissions counselor emailed me today that decisions should be going out within a week or two and thanked me for my patience. Thought that was nice of her to say shows she understands what we are going through.

Food for thought - I’ve been really excited for the ABSN, however, now I have two friends in a cohort and they are saying it is an untenable amount of work (And they both don’t shy from hard work!) and that the transition to online has been poorly managed by SMU.

I’ve been thinking the time demand would be approximately like a demanding full time job, however, it sounds like it is more like 80 hours per week.
It’s possible that this disorganization is due to moving to online and the challenges for teachers and administrators associated with that.

Personally, I have decided to start to apply to ADN programs (despite having a BSN and a 4.0 in sci prereqs). With three kids at home, I need a reasonably paced program.

I’d be Interested in hearing other accounts from current students.

best of luck, team!

I know the covid is ruining everything! Oh yes I’m sure it’s hard! I can’t imagine what they’re going through! I have a 2 year crazy toddler at home so I know it’s going to be hard. I applied to Yuba city college as well and plan on applying to Sierra college in February. I plan on going to wherever I can get it! Of course a city college is cheaper and the money situation will be less stressful. But we’ll see. God has a plan for all of us.

Oops sorry which posts said it? I wanna see!

I just searched Samuel Merritt ABSN..I think it was the Spring 2020 cohort!

I plan on applying to the SF State Extension ABSN program since it is in San Mateo as well, 15 months and half the cost of SMU. Just to have some options if I don't get in this time.

80 hours a week? Wow! I barely can handle 40 hours a week of work! Hahaha. But I know it will be rigorous though.

Hello,

has anyone heard back from SMU for San Mateo campus?

Hi saanef, no I have not heard from them.

Hi everyone! I know we are getting so anxious waiting to hear back. I am feeling the same way. I was curious if anyone knows what happens if you applied to both campus. I put SM as my priority and Sac as my second choice. I was wondering how the process works.

IDK if this will help you but for BSN they told us to go ahead and start on the application for the next cycle. The admissions decisions overlaps/too close to the deadline for next cycle so they recommended we start working on it. They said to register for TEAS or HESI to have a spot secured and then if you find out before hand just cancel the testing date. You would of course have to look into if they would issue you a refund or not..

TEAS doesn’t do refunds BTW. You have to have a good excuse to why you’re cancelling.

At the weekly virtual drop-in sessions they have on Mondays, one of the counselors said that they work to put you in the campus you mark as your priority. If there is no space there then you are put on a waitlist and if a spot is available for your 2nd choice they usually try and offer that spot.
