Hello! I just wanted to make a thread specifically for those who are applying to the Samuel Merritt ABSN for a spring 2017 start. I'm applying to start in April 2017. It's the only program I'm applying to, as I can't afford more than a year without an income and I really want a BSN and not an MSN at this time. I'm done with my application, just waiting for nursing CAS to verify all my transcripts before I click submit! Currently working full time and taking my last 3 pre recs online. What about you?
Just got the email from Samuel Merritt that applications do not have to be verified by the deadline, only submitted by then. Did yours get verified yet? I was waiting to send my application until my 2nd reference came through, but they also said references don't have to be in before you submit, the references just have to be named, so I could have submitted a couple of weeks ago. Oh well I'm all submitted now.
re: verification
for what it's worth, I applied to a different Sam Merritt program this summer (elmsn), submitting my nursingCAS on the deadline day. 5 days later, I received a Sam Merritt email saying they received my nursingcas, and to NOT contact them since they'll be busy, strange as that sounds. Another 10 days later, nursingCAS emails me that i'm verified. In a half panic, I email nursingcas asking if they can confirm that SMU received a verified app, they confirmed they sent SMU the application again after it was verified. The wordings of all those emails were weird, since nursingcas didn't have to send anything, and SMU can see the app online anytime. All's well that ends well.
Yea I guess the NursingCAS guidelines are just a precaution. They do say to have everything in and submitted 4 weeks before the deadline to allow for processing. However, Samuel Merritt said that the reference letters and transcripts did not need to be in before the deadline, just the application. My application actually got verified within a couple hours after I submitted my application, and I was contacted by Samuel Merritt the next day. So it all worked out. Going to be hard to wait until the end of February!
I also only applied to SMU. I prefer to do a 12 month program, and like that the location is convenient. I've thought about the SFSU ELMSN program, but it is a longer program and does not start until Fall. I may do an MSN program after the ABSN and working for a bit. I know a few people who have graduated from the SMU ABSN also.
i know - february seems so far away! i think i put san mateo april start first, san mateo june start second, and oakland third. wish they could just tell us now! i am worried about getting tripped up on a technicality, like the writing class i took 15 years ago wasn't the right one or something.
