Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2020

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for the Samuel Merritt ABSN summer 2020 cohort and just wanted to start one, as I know most of us are in the process of applying right now. I applied to the Sacramento campus, but am currently waitlisted. I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on how to be more competitive aside from GPA (as I am going to retake some courses to up my GPAs). I love that Samuel Merritt looks at applicants holistically. Please share the wisdom , whether you are applying or you are already in the program. Thank you and have a blessed day !

I called admissions this morning to follow up on the estimate they had initially given me that we would likely be hearing back by the end of February, and they told me to expect a decision for the Oakland (May) cohort by the end of March. :(((

Thank you for the update! WOW! it's so much later this year!! That makes me very concerned about the next application deadline, April 1. Hopefully we'll have enough time to notify our references and get another application out if we do not get accepted. ?

I applied for June. It looks like the April cohort might be hearing back pretty close to their start date ?

Hey all,

I've seen a few of you post your acceptance for the April Cohort (Yay and Congrats !). I'm just curious if anyone, when they check the portal, if it says your app is still being reviewed? LOL that's what mine says and IDK if that means I'm probably rejected or its cause my last name is at the end of the alphabet and they havent gotten there yet ? (LOL that's at least what I'm hoping ahah). Praying so hard right now ahah !

Mine says it’s being reviewed still! But I applied for the June cohort so I probably won’t hear back for another few weeks ?

Don’t fret, yet. They send out acceptances in “waves”. I am not sure why. Also, keep in mind they have an ELMSN class (applications include interviews) to select as well and some people may not get into ELMSN but also applied for ABSN. When both classes start at the same time, I’ve noticed the acceptance letters take a bit longer to go out.
If you get in, awesome. If not, go on the website and find one of the ABSN seminars to go to - they are super helpful with application prep. Also send an email to admissions and ask to speak with an admissions counselor. This organization has been EXCELLENT with emails. When you’re in the program it’s pretty much the primary communication medium. (Not because they don’t want to see you, but because it’s so much more efficient. You’ll be happy about it as a student.)

If you get waitlisted, you can restart your application right away and get those letters of rec participants on board now so you can have it all done for April 1 deadline. It’s possible, I promise, I did it last year. Y’all got this.

It's official! I've received my acceptance email early Saturday morning. I wish everyone good luck. This was my second attempt, so don't fret. Be patient and keep hustling.
