Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2020

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for the Samuel Merritt ABSN summer 2020 cohort and just wanted to start one, as I know most of us are in the process of applying right now. I applied to the Sacramento campus, but am currently waitlisted. I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on how to be more competitive aside from GPA (as I am going to retake some courses to up my GPAs). I love that Samuel Merritt looks at applicants holistically. Please share the wisdom , whether you are applying or you are already in the program. Thank you and have a blessed day !

Hey, I received the "Thank you for Applying to Samuel Merritt University!" email today 2/11/20.

I am confused.... Is this what they call the Preliminary email? Or the actual Preliminary email will be coming next??

I was looking at the threat from 2019, and around this time they were getting the actual Preliminary email, which stated all the classes we have taken and what is missing and what not.

I submitted my application November 2019, and I had pending transcripts from Fall 2019. NursingCas verified the Fall transcripts on 1/31/20. Could that be reason why I am only getting this email confirmation now???

I am so anxious to know the results! ?

The preliminary review email specifically says “preliminary review” in the email body. Does yours say that?

The subject says: "Thank you for Applying to Samuel Merritt University!"

You can check your application status under the 'Checklist' tab. You sign up with the same email as the one you used for NursingCas. I learned about this through older forums.

Created an account and checked the "Checklist" tab only to find this screenshot saying I've been admitted but it also says my application is still under review? Asked a friend of mine who also applied and she sent me a screenshot of her portal - she was admitted! She said she called and one of the admission officers and was told results will officially be out first week of March.

I'm assuming it's a really high number of applicants + the redesign of the website is delaying apps processing.

When your friend said she was admitted, where did it say that?

The big print means nothing - that is a generic statement. Typically students don’t receive instructions about the admitted portal until the have actually been admitted - so don’t let it fool you. What you are looking for is the Checklist tab in the drop down menu.
That will organize all of your applications (if you’ve applied to multiple SMU programs or multiple cohorts, you will essentially see your application “history” here). This is where it will say “You’ve been admitted”. You’ll be able to click on the link and a whole checklist of preliminary items will come up.

look at the small text under the application for the cohort you applied. It’ll say one of the following:

“congratulations you’ve been admitted“

“you are on the waitlist”

“your application is under review”

“Your application has been denied”

But those giant letters about being accepted - nope. Not What you’re looking for. Look for the smaller text.

also, it was only about 1 day after my portal was updated that I got the email notification.

I applied to this program several times before getting in and can assure you it is FAR too early for decisions to have been made. But they will get the to you before the next application is due (April 1).

Does anyone else's portal not have the application submission listed at all? Ie. e. The green circle and text about which campus/cohort applied to, as well as the small text underneath with the application status.

At first I was a little worried that this meant my application was not submitted, but I take comfort remembering that I *did* receive that email saying that my application has undergone their preliminary review.

Yes! Mine looks exactly like yours. I too also received a preliminary review email on January 13th. Maybe they are still updating the portal???

SO bummed they are saying that we may not hear until the beginning of March. ? I wonder if that does mean there are quite a few applicants.
