Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2020

Hi All,

I didn't see a thread for the Samuel Merritt ABSN summer 2020 cohort and just wanted to start one, as I know most of us are in the process of applying right now. I applied to the Sacramento campus, but am currently waitlisted. I just wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations on how to be more competitive aside from GPA (as I am going to retake some courses to up my GPAs). I love that Samuel Merritt looks at applicants holistically. Please share the wisdom , whether you are applying or you are already in the program. Thank you and have a blessed day !

You can try checking the portal to see if you got in that way, but you're also supposed to receive a letter by email the next day.

I received the acceptance email for San Mateo's April Cohort on Feb. 29, however due to a family emergency put in a very last minute request to be considered instead for the June Cohort (San Mateo). Just received an update this past Friday that my request has been approved for June! YAY!

Now for the truly daunting task of applying for loans. Anyhoo...I have been reading this forum for a while and finally decided to join in on the conversation. ?

For the April cohort we were told we can register for classes today but my portal still says "You are not eligible to register at this time". Was anybody able to register today?

Hello! I am one of the Oakland applicants and am anxiously awaiting to hear from them about their Oakland decisions. Has anyone recently been in contact with Anne from admissions or another admissions counselor? I do not want to bother her with emails, so I'm wondering if anyone has heard from her recently about when she thinks Oakland applicants will hear back. Wondering if I should start the Fall ABSN application that's due on 4/1. eek!!?

Hello! Not sure if this is too helpful, but I tried calling Anne this morning with some questions about my Oakland application and her voicemail message said she is out today and not checking messages and that it's "possible" she could be out some/all this week on jury duty. Ugh! So if you want to reach someone asap I suggest trying to get routed to another admissions counselor. Good luck!

We should be hearing soon. Interviews for the ELMSN programs are on March 23 & 24. So, hopefully by Friday or the following Monday we should know. Good luck everyone!

Hi there, fellow applicant to the Oakland June cohort and eagerly awaiting news. Can you expand on the logic here? Why would interview dates for the ELMSN program on the 23rd and 24th imply that we would be hearing from Oakland June ABSN decisions as early as this Friday the 13th or Monday the 16th? Both of those dates are prior to the dates of the interviews that you mentioned. Also, does somebody know if admissions considers ELMSN applicants for the ABSN spots (as their second choice) before reviewing the actual ABSN applicants? Sorry, not getting much sleep as I nervously await the news, so my brain might be a bit slow on this.

I do know that at one point, admissions was saying we would know by the end of February. Recently, it sounds like they changed their minds and are now saying that we may not know until the end of March. If anyone has tips for how they are dealing with this major unknown in a healthy way that does not include obsessively checking ALL the websites (SMU portal, Nursing CAS, this thread, and personal email) and spinning wheels well into the wee hours of the night, I am open to them!

I doubt ELMSN and ABSN affect each other. I applied to both, got an interview invite for the CM program a month ago (the interview is scheduled for later this month), and then got accepted to the June SM cohort last week. As far as I know, the FNP program hasn't even sent out acceptances/rejections yet either and their interviews were early last week. The ABSN acceptances have already started going out for San Mateo at least (both April and June cohorts).

Does anyone else have a portal screen that looks like this? I'm very concerned that mine does not list my application. I did receive a preliminary review email back in January but I can't figure out why my portal is still blank. ?
