Hi Everyone! I know this is a bit early but I will be applying to SMU for the ABSN program of Summer 2014 (Oakland Campus). I am currently finishing my Bachelor's degree in health science at CSUEB right now and I will be done in the fall. I just wanted to start a discussion on this topic and get to know some people who are applying to the program for summer 2014. Let's get to know each other, share our stats, etc.
Here are my estimated stats that they look at:
Last 60 units GPA: 3.5
Pre req GPA: 3.4
Teas: 83 but I am re taking it in a couple of weeks
Experience: I am a CNA and Med tech currently. I volunteer at John Muir hospital and at American Red Cross.
I hope to hear from some prospective applicants soon!
Hi dyumul07 ~Including your resume with your application is optional and I don't believe it will hurt your chances. If you do want to include (the deadline just past so don't sweat it) either e-mail the Admissions contact a short note and include your resume or drop your resume off to the campus in an envelope with a sticky note on it. The Admissions contact for us last year her first name started with an E and last name with a B (can't say names here).
Soon you will be receiving an e-mail, saying your application is "moving along the first review process" and submitting grades and anything else will be permitted until XX time. Then early next year or very late this year, you will receive another e-mail saying something like, your file is complete and your file is being reviewed with Nursing faculty. When you get to this point, you can't add anything to your file. Overall, I'd say if your grades are excellent (especially prereq's), you have volunteer or work experience in the health field, TEAS scores above national average, great reference letters and well written essays you have a terrific shot!!
I'm rooting for you guys and I hope to see you next year at orientation.
Thank you for replying. I actually applied for spring 2014, but have yet to get to the second email for faculty review. I hope to be accepted soon. Thank you for the advice!
Hi Dyumul07,
Sounds like you applied to San Mateo (April) 2014? If you wanted to submit your resume feel free to e-mail Admissions - though honestly it won't make or break your application. I have a few friends of mine attending SMU-San Mateo (April) this year. It's challenging - though they are enjoying the program. They received their acceptance at the end of January this year.
Best of luck to you! Don't hesitate to ask any questions or share news when you receive it. :)
One more question! I've had all my letter writers submit to Interfolio, an online document service. Did anybody do this, and by what method did you deliver? I already tried having them submit online, but because it's a survey w/ supplemental information requested, they can't upload them. Maybe email or hard copy deliveries?
Just wanted to let you know you all may be waiting for about 4-6+ months for acceptance news. Unless things have changed, the graduating 2013 ABSN (Oakland) class received their acceptances at the end of February 2012 and our class of 2014 received acceptances at the the end of March 2013. While the SMU application/website says 3-4 months, it's often a little longer. Just be patient and stay busy.
I've had a few days off break, and thought I'd check in to see folks applying for next year. It's an exciting time and you guys should be proud of what you've accomplished so far. Take care and I'll check back around soon.
