Samuel Merritt ABSN -Summer 2022 Oakland

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi future nurses! I wanted to started a thread for those of us that have applied to Samuel Merritt's ABSN Summer 2022 cohort. I'm hoping we can answer each other's questions and get an idea where the school is at in sending acceptance letters. Yesterday I received an email saying that they completed the preliminary review of my application.  Anyone else receive the same email?

But my first choice is SMU due to the length of the program. I’m in my mid 30’s so doing an extra 1.5yrs with EB just seems like too much time. And I’ve taken extra classes required for SMU which would be a waste if I go to CSUEB. I’m still pretty conflicted with my decision though as EB is much closer to me and cheaper. Ultimately, if I get in I will most likely opt for SMU. I hope answers come soon, I feel bad for holding up a seat if I’m not going to attend EB

I'm in the exact same situation as you, except with SJSU. I hate being "that guy" who submits the "statement of intent" to attend SJSU only to withdraw a couple weeks later if I end up getting into SMU. Like CSUEB, SJSU is a heavily impacted program and I don't want to keep a spot away from a well-deserved applicant.

I'm also in my 30s (almost 40, woohoo) and the accelerated program at SMU is a huge plus for me. Thanks for sharing!

Hi fellow Sam Merritt peeps,

Hate to ask the golden question, but has anyone gotten any follow-up from admissions? I haven't received anything this week despite what counselors have told us otherwise, and am wondering if they've started rolling out any messages to other applicants or not. Fingers crossed!

Hello,

I went to a drop in and the counselor said we should hear back end of December/ beginning of January.

Hey Guys!

I just found these Allnurses threads and I am freaking out a little bit. Has anyone heard anything other than that their application is under preliminary review?

I was looking at people's stats from the Sacramento Spring application and it seemed like it was super competitive.

Hi and welcome to the group! No I haven't heard anything so far.  Where are you finding the stats for the Sacramento Spring Cohort? I'm hoping we find out something soon. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone.

@Panursonic I’m in the exact same shoes! I got into SJSU and accepted a seat but would rather go to SMU for the accelerated program. Have you completed SJSU’s required tasks or are you holding off to see if SMU replies? There is a health clearance due Jan 1st and it costs a lot to complete.. ideally we would hear back from SMU soon

Hi Coffeebeans,

Nice to hear from you! Yes, I am in the (lengthy and somewhat annoying) process of doing the Castlebranch stuff for SJSU which is all due on Jan 1. I believe that SMU uses the same company for health clearance, so you should be able to reuse most of your lab work for TB, MMRV, HepB, etc.

The health clearance is just one sheet of paper from your doctor, PA or NP stating you're healthy and physically capable of performing nursing duties. I recently went for a physical and ordered all my immunity tests at the same time. My doc was able to order it as part of my annual physical, so fortunately I didn't have to pay out of pocket.

I just got my acceptance letter this morning!! Like 5 min ago! Check your email and check your admitted students portal!

Congrats! I haven't got any email from SMU yet! Do they send email for rejection too? OR should I wait little longer? I have no idea how this it works.

I’m now realizing that I got into the San Mateo campus so it actually might be different if you applied to Oakland? But they send a rejection letter. I got one when I first applied and it came after people got the acceptance. But hopefully that’s not the case!
