Samuel Merritt ABSN -Summer 2022 Oakland

Published

Hi future nurses! I wanted to started a thread for those of us that have applied to Samuel Merritt's ABSN Summer 2022 cohort. I'm hoping we can answer each other's questions and get an idea where the school is at in sending acceptance letters. Yesterday I received an email saying that they completed the preliminary review of my application.  Anyone else receive the same email?

I feel like I want to sign that letter of intent before they realize they accidentally updated my portal and take it away ?

I'm actually losing my mind RN. Without an official email I'm freaking out that Ashton Kutcher is going to bust in my room and tell me I'm being punked.

Just got the official email of acceptance! Check your emails! Can't wait to get to know everyone.  Should we create a facebook group?

Same here! Can't wait to meet you all!!

Hi all I made a group for the Samuel Merritt ABSN Summer 2022 Oakland campus

For those in San Mateo I haven’t seen an fb group created or allnurses chat so I’ve created an fb group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/431327801944093/?ref=share

Also just received my letter of acceptance today for Oakland! Congrats to those that have made it in so far! This feels unreal, not gonna lie.

Hello everyone!
I received my letter of acceptance to the San Mateo campus! Looking for anyone who also got accepted to this location! ?

Hi folks, I wonder if any of you current students (ideally those at the San Mateo campus) can provide some insight about schedules and hybrid/virtual vs. in-person classes.

1. I am curious to know how many days/week you need to be on site in San Mateo vs. attending classes/labs remotely. Are didactic class hours/clinicals/labs typically between 9 am-5 pm? Or are some scheduled during early morning/evening hours?

2. Also, can you provide a sense of how many days/week clinicals are?

3. Is there a list of potential clinical sites? Trying to get a sense of how far they are from the SM campus.

4. Are there any required weekend clinicals/labs/sims/classes?

Thanks in advance for any answers/guidance you can provide!

1. Currently, all our classes are on zoom, they are either recorded or we meet online synchronously. Some classes have skills workshops where you need to show up in person. Clinicals are also in person and may take place outside of the 9a-5p hours you mention.

2. Clinicals start out a 2 days a week and depending on the class, may go down to 1 day a week (per class). Usually it is 2 clinical days a week.

3.  I don't think there is a list but I have personally traveled as far as walnut creek/concord for clinicals.

4. Yes the clinicals/labs are required and they may land on a weekend depending on faculty availability etc..

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for that insight, Elaine!
