Hi future nurses! I wanted to started a thread for those of us that have applied to Samuel Merritt's ABSN Summer 2022 cohort. I'm hoping we can answer each other's questions and get an idea where the school is at in sending acceptance letters. Yesterday I received an email saying that they completed the preliminary review of my application. Anyone else receive the same email?
Hello future SM ABSN folks,
I also haven't received any updates since the October 6th "preliminary review" email. It's kind of a bummer to hear back so late, because I am also deciding between SJSU (was conditionally accepted) and they need a decision by 11/29. Hopefully we will hear some good news soon!
I am in the same boat. I had to secure my seat with a non-refundable deposit but my first choice is Samuel Merritt, so if it comes down to it I would just lose the deposit on the first school. I went to the drop-in last week and the counselor said he hopes decisions are out by the end of the December... not sure how accurate that is because a previous poster said they heard from another counselor that we would hear back near the end of November/ early December.

It is so disappointing if we hear from them at the end of December.
I also got accepted into another program and I paid deposit too.
Ltvnurse, can I ask what school are you accepted into now and why SMU is better for you? I know it is personal but I need some tips since I would have hard time making a decision if I got into SMU. I got accepted into USF and I like this school too but it is little further to me and program is longer than ABSN of SMU, and starts in January ?
if SMU announces accepted students that late like at the end of December, I would really have a trouble.
Thanks!

I am actually in the same exact position. Reasons why I would choose the ABSN program over the ME-MSN program is that it is shorter, closer to home, slightly less expensive, and it begins in May. January is pretty soon and starting later would allow me to save a bit more. USF’s program is amazing and I am grateful either way! If you would like to connect further to talk about this, let me know! I’ve been struggling with my decision too. ?

Hi! Wow We are exactly in the same position! SMU is really too close to my place! But I like USF’s curriculum ? definitely I’d love to talk to you more!
Ideally, they should have their results in before 12/01 to keep students from applying to a different cohort, but thats just my opinion. It’s hard to gauge when we will have an answer because of this new deadline as it was previously 12/01 for the Oakland program. The 09/01 deadline was for Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 this year. From what I read, the Spring 2022 students were notified around 10/15 which means it took them 1.5 months to review the applications. I assume they worked exclusively with the Spring program and then moved on to reviewing applications for the Summer 2022 program. If that’s the case 1.5 months after 10/15 brings us to the end of November. Fingers crossed.
I am admitted to CSUEB’s Spring cohort and have submitted deposits etc. But my first choice is SMU due to the length of the program. I’m in my mid 30’s so doing an extra 1.5yrs with EB just seems like too much time. And I’ve taken extra classes required for SMU which would be a waste if I go to CSUEB. I’m still pretty conflicted with my decision though as EB is much closer to me and cheaper. Ultimately, if I get in I will most likely opt for SMU. I hope answers come soon, I feel bad for holding up a seat if I’m not going to attend EB.
I’ve attempted to research both programs in terms of quality, student success/satisfaction, difficulty, etc. but I haven’t really found any reliable info and I don’t know anyone who has attended either program. If anyone has insight into this please share.

when I emailed the admission team asking when we can hear from them, basically they said that we are encouraged to apply for cohort deadline December 1. Let me share email below.

Thank you for your inquiry. Due to a number of different factors throughout the application review process, we are unable to provide you with a definitive timeline for application decisions, however an estimation of notification is typically 3 months after the published application deadline. We understand that you may be anxious to receive this information. Rest assured, we will communicate the application decisions as soon as they are received from the faculty. As notification will be sent via email, be sure to also monitor your spam/junk mail folder as well. Applicants are also encouraged to apply prior to the deadline for the next application cycle if you have not received a decision notification for your current application.
We thank you for your patience.

Thanks for sharing. I may have to proceed with EB based on SMU taking too long to respond.
