To all perspective SMC ABSN San Mateo Summer 09 students:
As the Nov 01 application deadline approaches, we should be at least finishing up with our application; some of us may have already mailed it out. Congratulations on taking an important step toward a successful nursing career!
I'm going to mail out my application this week. Currently taking English 1B and patho, I'll take speech and sociology next quarter. Life is not as hectic as when I was taking A&P and chem classes; attending both lecture and lab is so time-consuming. Now I can go zumba-ing 3-4 times a week at Clubone in San Jose. Life as a pre-nursing student is still good, even though I'm not contributing to my 401k.
Please use this thread to get to know each other, to prepare ourselves for the rigorous ABSN program, and to help each other succeed. Why? Because it's in giving that we're receiving!
The paper was on one disease and the drugs used. It was mainly on the drugs. It wasn't bad. the tests if I remember were all mutiple choice on line.. If you know the material you have time.. The pharm I thought should have been 4 units.. It takes tons of time!!! You have to get up and walk away from it to otherwise you will go batty.
Hi Izzy: I was accepted to the San Mateo location. It was my first choice. As far as my stats, I can't remember from the top of my head my GPA, but last 60 units and science pre-req were both around 3.6-ish and my NET was 90. I also think your personal statement and the 2 letters of recommendations play a good part too.
Mochi: I live in San Jose too! We should exchange emails, maybe carpool?
I got accepted to Oakland but live in Brentwood. I am waiting on other schools but the main reason that I applied to Samuel Merritt was because I thought that I could commute but it took me one hour and 20 mins in non commute traffic. That is a lot of time not studying. I want to find out how many days we are actually on campus..
I got accepted into San Mateo!
I had to call cuz I didn't get anything in the mail. The lady in admissions had to grab my file. She told me a copy of the accpetance letter was in my file and that she didn't know why I didn't receivve it yet.
For those of you still waiting, you may need to call too!
Well, I got my decision letter on Friday the 13th. It took them 4 months to tell me my application is incomplete. I am missing ONE unit of a 4-unit pre-req science class. The class was approved by one of their admissions advisors (I have the worksheet she wrote up for me), so I didn't think twice about it. It was a human mistake on her part, but they took so long to let me know, that now I am past the deadline to even apply for Fall. If I had known, I could have taken the class this spring, and applied for the Fall cohort. I am sooo frustrated. I really hope I get an appointment and work out a good and fair resolution.:grn:
nursesrock08: carpooling sounds excellent. we can plan something out during orientation. :)Did anyone here take a basic life support (BLS) course certified by the AHA? I just want to make sure this course meets their CPR requirement.
The only CPR they accept is the AHA (American Heart Association), so make sure that's where you take it or you'll end up retaking it. The Red Cross one will not be accepted.
StarBelly, I'm in the same boat so I totally feel your pain. Apparently the psych class I took doesn't count but somehow it took them 4 months to let me know...arrg! The good news is Lizzie sent out and email saying the Fall application due date was extended until April 1st so you can still apply. Good luck!

What subject was the paper on...a certain drug? So, tell me what the tests were like...and the final.....I have test anxiety and the on line classes are timed and I have trouble when rushed...multiple choice...fill in... matching...essay...?
I see it is a two unit course and I was thinking about trying to take the second English class that SMU wants at the same time...maybe not?
