To all perspective SMC ABSN San Mateo Summer 09 students:
As the Nov 01 application deadline approaches, we should be at least finishing up with our application; some of us may have already mailed it out. Congratulations on taking an important step toward a successful nursing career!
I'm going to mail out my application this week. Currently taking English 1B and patho, I'll take speech and sociology next quarter. Life is not as hectic as when I was taking A&P and chem classes; attending both lecture and lab is so time-consuming. Now I can go zumba-ing 3-4 times a week at Clubone in San Jose. Life as a pre-nursing student is still good, even though I'm not contributing to my 401k.
Please use this thread to get to know each other, to prepare ourselves for the rigorous ABSN program, and to help each other succeed. Why? Because it's in giving that we're receiving!
Thanks everyone and congrats back to you!
Mochi57, I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of other schools but what's the chance? So most likely yes, I will go to SMU. We have about 3 weeks to decide, right?
late_bloomer, I didn't see you either. I was on the left side of the room. I'm sure yours is on its way...let us know!
Izzy16, my last 90 qtr GPA was like 3.4~3.5. My previous degree GPA was pretty bad. My prereq GPA is 3.8~3.9. NET 93. I think good essay and ref. letters would also help.
NursesRock08, Yeah, classmate. I wonder if all 48 of us will go into clinicals all together or are we going to be divided into small groups? 'cause 48 seems like a big group to be moving around together....

I hope you hear more good news from other schools! Your stats are very high! Yeah, we still have a few weeks to decide. Keep us posted. :)
Does anyone know when we'll hear back from the school regarding financial aid and which loans we might qualify for? I need to start doing some research for student loans, anyone have tips on where to start?
I had Erick Bailey. The first half of the class was interesting. I am learning alot of the same info in my medical term class and CNA class. Then there was one paper. I got 100 on that, That is what saved me.. The second half was tons of memorization. I did terrible on the final but got a B in the class.. I think if you really study pharm and put tons of time into it and study with others... at least I need others when it is pure memorization you can do well. I am worried that Samuel Merritt won't incorporate pharm into their program, I know most schools you learn the drugs as you go along...

I'm waiting anxiously for the letter; heard it's a big white envelope. For those who got accepted, congrats! Also, could you please let me know if that campus was your 1st choice? I made the mistake of picking Oakland knowing full well it was the most competitive but I hope it didn't decrease my odds.
Thanks!
