Samuel Merritt ABSN - San Mateo June 09

To all perspective SMC ABSN San Mateo Summer 09 students:

As the Nov 01 application deadline approaches, we should be at least finishing up with our application; some of us may have already mailed it out. Congratulations on taking an important step toward a successful nursing career!

I'm going to mail out my application this week. Currently taking English 1B and patho, I'll take speech and sociology next quarter. Life is not as hectic as when I was taking A&P and chem classes; attending both lecture and lab is so time-consuming. Now I can go zumba-ing 3-4 times a week at Clubone in San Jose. Life as a pre-nursing student is still good, even though I'm not contributing to my 401k.

Please use this thread to get to know each other, to prepare ourselves for the rigorous ABSN program, and to help each other succeed. Why? Because it's in giving that we're receiving!

Does anyone know how many students will be accepted?

48 seats per campus.

... someone who applied to San Mateo as their 2nd choice will beat me in even though it is my 1st choice. How does this work?

I don't know. Lizzie just emailed us that we have to wait until the 1st week of March. I'm hoping to hear from them earlier though. Hang in there!

I just got that email too... Frustrating huh? I'm so nervous... my heart pounds every time i check my mailbox.

I asked Lizzie why my cousin already got accepted and she replied... "She got an early acceptance". I didn't want to email her again asking what that means. I didn't want to be annoying.

Did anyone get accepted to San Mateo yet? good luck to us all!

Hey Mayrye,

I'm right there with you- this waiting sucks! Did everyone get the email today about how they're not sending out letters until the first week of March? Acck! There are 48 seats available at each location (according to one of Lizzie's Q&A emails). I've been reading posts from previous years and it looks like the first 8 people or so on the waitlist usually get in. Since the economy is so bad right now the odds might be even better for our cohort so don't get too freaked out! Not sure how location priority fits into the ranking but I'm sure they'd let you know if you send them an email. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone....:)

thanks for your response. I haven't emailed Lizzie because she never responds to my emails or phone calls. I assume that it is because she is extremely busy, but dissapointing to me because i would expect more from a college that I plan on giving $60,000. I've received better service from a University which costs $2,000/semester. Nonetheless, this is supposed to be an excellent school, and I would love to be accepted. Just a couple more weeks and we will all know!!

Anyone else concerned about not making the March 2nd deadline for the California FAFSA? Tried calling and emailing both Lizzie and the counseling office to ask them whether they expect us to get our letters in time but no one has responded. I will probably apply even if I haven't heard yet but I'm not sure how the government verifies our enrollment and what will happen if I wasn't accepted. Anyone know how this works?

I was told to go ahead and apply and put down all the schools that I was interested in. I put down 9 schools so they have my info regardless of where I end up going...

Awesome thanks! For some reason I thought you had to already be accepted to be eligible.

I guess no one has heard anything yet, huh? I'm extremely anxious. Please let us know if you get in!!

Nothing in the mail yet. It's that week...good luck everyone. :plsebeg:

Nothing for me yet! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! So nervous!

Good Luck Everyone! Lets keep each other posted on the letters we get!

Got acceptance to oakland today but I am still waiting on another school. They want 350 by march 16
